Near the glistening pool, amid the olive and palm trees, you could be forgiven for thinking you were in the Mediterranean.
Both Stephanie and Mike love their lush garden, which makes an ideal venue for entertaining.
Mike designed it and it really adds a special touch to our home, which is already different to the surrounding properties in terms of style, Stephanie said.
When they looked at the 1970s house, eight and a half years ago, they were struck by the spacious rooms and the home's flexibility. It spans four different levels and boasts six bedrooms and five reception rooms.
The Shepperton location was also a draw with good access into London mixed with a friendly community feel and pretty tree lined avenue.
SUPERB IN SLATE
As well as working on the garden, the couple have extended one of the top floor bedrooms adding a Juliet balcony, and have renewed the garden room by incorporating Welsh slate that is also in the kitchen.
The garden room and kitchen run together beautifully, she said.
The modern grey kitchen, which ties in perfectly with the slate, forms the hub of the house. It has contemporary cabinets and lots of light thanks to its open plan flow into the garden room.
We tend to all congregate in that open area as there is plenty of space for casual seating and we have a large table in the garden room.
Bi-folding doors open out onto the garden making the whole space flexible.
When the doors are open you feel that you're part of the garden, which is great when people are over in the summer, she said.
There's also a dining room at the front of the house for more formal occasions that used to be a double garage.
That room is great for winter parties as we can fit a lot of people in there at Christmas, she said.
Also on the ground floor is a good-sized study, which is ideal for working from home.
An extra bonus is the basement space that houses a walk-in wine cellar and a games room.
We have a large snooker table in the games room, it's great for teenagers. Or it could be used as a general family room. The wine cellar is also a nice addition - it's always cool in there, even in the heat of the summer.
Heading up to the first floor, there's a large drawing room, with a large picture window and fantastic views out over the garden. To the side of the drawing room is a door with steps leading down to the outside terrace and garden.
It's fabulous having that view of the garden - again, you feel a part of it even when you're not in it.
There's also a feature brick fireplace with an open fire that keeps the room cosy in the winter.
At Christmas, we have a big tree in there and we have the fire lit on most winter evenings, not because we need to, but because it's nice, she added.
On that same level there are four of the bedrooms, two of which are used as a sewing room and a dressing room.
The previous owners made one big room into two smaller rooms, which suited us fine as we don't use them as bedrooms. They could either be used as they are as single rooms, or be converted back to one big bedroom, she said.
The spacious master bedroom is on the same floor, and boasts an en-suite bathroom. Up another level are two more bedrooms, one of which looks out over the back garden with French windows and a Juliet balcony.
That's a great room for guests as it is spacious and light, and they can look into the garden, she said.
We have many happy memories of living here. It's been great for family and guests, and relaxing for us.
The individual and striking elevations of this family home belie the spacious interiors that lie within and it is not until you step inside that you can fully appreciate the light and airy rooms. The 19ft dining room is an inviting space with the capacity to host large diner parties, while across the hall the generous study provides a peaceful retreat to work in or equally could be used as a TV room or play room. To the rear of the house, the kitchen forms the hub of the home having been fully fitted with a variety of appliances and enjoying views of the garden. The open plan layout with the conservatory/breakfast room, which in turn has bi-folding doors opening to the rear terrace, creates an easy flow that is ideal for entertaining.
Lower Ground Floor Accommodation
From the reception hall, stairs descend to a spacious family room with an adjacent storage/wine room. Currently used as a games room with its own door to the garden, this would equally be perfect as a home gym or hobby room perhaps.
First Floor Accommodation
The drawing room is one of the highlights of this home with its floor to ceiling picture window framing delightful views of the garden and pool. Additionally, there is an open fireplace and a door allowing external access. The master bedroom is complimented by an en-suite bathroom and a range of wardrobes, whilst the three other bedrooms are serviced by a separate five-piece family bathroom.
Second Floor Accommodation
This floor could easily provide a separate suite to accommodate an au pair or guests as both bedrooms offer versatility with the rear bedroom benefitting from its own shower cubicle and French doors that open to a Juliet balcony overlooking the rear garden.
Setting the Scene
High Timbers sits on a tree-lined avenue in the quiet village location of Shepperton.
The garden has been extensively landscaped with a Mediterranean theme featuring a large terrace, palm trees, olive trees and various fruit trees.
There's also a terrace area alongside the pool, and a large garden shed that not only houses all the pool equipment but has electricity so a television or stereo can be plugged in.
The garden has been a real labour of love, said Stephanie. But we, especially Mike, really enjoy it.
Within Easy Reach
Shepperton has excellent links into London, with the train station just a five-minute walk from Broadlands Avenue, meaning Kingston is about 20 minutes away and London Waterloo 50 minutes.
From next year there will be more faster trains through Richmond, as the service will be extended.
Road links are also good with the M3 within easy reach, as well as the M25. Heathrow Airport is about a 20-minute drive away.
There are several green spaces nearby and popular theme park Thorpe Park is within a 15-minute drive.
From Shepperton High Street proceed towards the train station and at the traffic lights turn left into Green Lane (B3366). Take the next right into Broadlands Avenue where High Timbers is located approximately half way along on the left.
