It has been five years now since Lisa Darch and Jon Curley first stepped into the handsome property that would once have been home to a captain of the high seas.
My husband and I had been walking our dogs opposite and decided we wanted to live near the park, Lisa explained. Ty Draw is such a fantastic road. The houses on it are just so beautiful and they have amazing views of the park.
We stepped into the garden entrance and loved it immediately. I knew this was where I wanted to live.
We then went inside the house and were drawn to all the space it offered, as well as the period features; the mouldings on the ceilings and the fireplaces.
We made an offer the next day and had moved in within four weeks.

PERIOD ELEGANCE

Lisa readily admits she fell in love with the grace and sophistication of the nine-bedroom house, as well as its inviting ambience.
It just has a really beautiful flow it, as well as nice-sized, square rooms. The stairs and the hallway are elegant too, she said.
I love the fact that it has the balconies, where you can sit and look out over towards the trees and the park. You can just relax there and take it all in.

BRIGHT AND WELCOMING

The kitchen has been remodelled by the couple and with high gloss units and black granite work surfaces has a bright, modern feel that offers contrast to the rest of the property. It leads through into a large orangery, with double doors on to the garden.
This part of the house - in fact the whole house - is great for entertaining, she said. We moved in on the Friday and by the Sunday we were welcoming 45 people in for a barbecue! The person who lived here before us had a full jazz band out in the garden for one party he threw!

ROOMS WITH A VIEW

At the very top of the house is a relaxation room where Lisa loves to spend time in the afternoon.
There is a white carpet in here and the sun just pours in. In the summer, I open up the doors on to the balcony. In the winter, I take my little girl up there and we can play together in the warmth.
The master bedroom also enjoys fabulous views. Here Lisa and Jon often find themselves standing at the window for stretches of time, absorbing the changing scenes out in the park.
I love watching families playing out there. It is a great community, she said.

IN THE PARK

The garden has a minimalist style and offers lawn to play out on and sun-soaked terraces for al fresco dining.
It is very peaceful out here, she said. This is a lovely location and I will miss that sense of relaxation. From here you have access to great shops and boutiques but you can walk also through all the parks for hours.
And she added: This house also has a wonderful sense of grandeur and yet is so comfortable as well.


ACCOMMODATION
GROUND FLOOR

Entered via an attractive part etched glass door with coloured lights, the central reception hall is full of character, from the original style oak staircase with ornate newel post, timber floor with deep skirting, and high ceiling with striking coving. As with many of the rooms throughout the house, the character of the hall is complemented by a touch of the contemporary in the form of an integrated music system.
