Situation
Shallowmead Nurseries is located at Boldre, a village immediately to the north of Lymington on the edge of the A337 which links Lymington via Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst to junction 1 of the M27. Shallowmead Nurseries is situated on the eastern side of Boldre Lane, a short distance north of the junction with the A337 which leads south towards Lymington.
Description
The nursery has been in the family for over 60 years, and has been providing wholesale products to clients across the country and further afield. The main nursery business operates from Lot 1 and Lot 4, but the sale includes an attractive open plan bungalow as well as paddocks and woodland with potential to develop, subject to obtaining planning permission.
Accommodation
The nursery specialises in propagating, growing and wholesaling a wide range of hardy nursery stock, hedging and conifers but is suitable to grow a wide variety of plants with the opportunity of retail sales via the farm gate. The nursery business is being sold as a going concern with the goodwill of existing customers plus stock and moveable plant and machinery at valuation.
The glasshouses were erected between 1968 & 1979 and are Stevenson and Robinson Widespans. The majority of the houses have concrete aprons to the front and internally have a concrete work area, mypex flooring and irrigation. One house has sandbeds, the rest have
computerised and manual irrigation systems. At the end of the site is a car parking area and a modern single storey brick building under pitched tiled roof which is used as a staff room with
kitchen and WCs. At the end of the building is a store that could be converted into an office (see block plan). The nursery benefits from a bunded diesel tank with a 1,000 litre capacity. Adjacent is a tractor shed and store with office.
The nursery has approximately 1 hectare of plant standing areas that have been well maintained over the years. These areas are mostly fenced, covered with mypex and irrigated overhead or by trickle via computer controls. Half of one of the glasshouses is used as a propagation unit with
sand/mypex beds, underfloor heating and mist irrigation, the remainder is used for stock plants.
Directions
From the M27 leave on Junction 1 and head south for Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst on the A337 towards Lymington. On the outskirts of Lymington, just before the first roundabout turn left up Boldre Lane. The nursery business can be found about ½ of a mile on the right hand side.
