A charming country cottage in an enchanting wooded valley.

Description

Located withing the Brecon Beacon National Park Glanyrafon is set in a delightful rural enclave, a parkland setting, above Nant Cadlan in the attractive village of Penderyn.

Penderyn is steeped in history. A church dedicated to St. Cynog was built here in the 6th century AD. Famous inhabitants include David Wynne and Dic Penderyn who was involved in the Merthyr Rising of 1831. It is also the home of The Penderyn Distillery which is a popular tourist attraction

The Brecon Beacons National Park is within a short drive through Cwm Cadlan which is a designated Special Area of Conservation (SAC). It has the largest recorded example of Molinia meadows in Wales.

Communications and local facilities are close to hand, with comprehensive shopping centres at Brecon, Aberdare and Merthyr Tydfil. There is easy access to Cardiff both by road and rail. Park and ride facilities provide a regular service to Cardiff, with its BR mainline railway station. The A4059 leads onto the A465 Heads of the Valleys Road, east towards the A470 with links to Abergavenny and the West Midlands and south to the M4 at junction 32. The A465 westbound joins the M4 at Neath (J43).

Local recreational facilities are in abundance with a host of rural based activities including cycling, trekking, climbing and a wealth of historic walks within the Brecon Beacons National Park and surrounding countryside. There are footpaths adjacent to the property leading to the Brecon Beacons National Park.

The Property

Glanyrafon was built in approximately 1890 adjacent to a much earlier dwelling dating back to 1740, the stone floor is still evident.

The present owners have lived at the property for approximately 18 years and have undertaken sympathetic improvements to include handmade sash windows, new kitchen and bathroom fittings and a wood burning stove in the living room. An extension to the south western elevation incorporates a conservatory offering superb views across the delightful garden and valley. There is also a shower room off the conservatory.

The garden is enchanting, merging with the natural contours of the stream and undulating countryside. There is a large detached work shop. A timber decked jetty protrudes into the stream and a pond thrives with lilies. Clematis clad arbours and trellises, intertwining paths with herbaceous borders and lawned areas complete the idyllic rural environment.

The property is approached from a quiet country lane, across a Ford, through a timber gated entrance into the stunning gardens. A paved path and steps lead up to a southwest facing terrace to an open canopied porch with a part glazed timber door opening into:
