Full description:
Tenure: Freehold
The Old Stag is situated close to the centre of this popular north essex village within easy reach of Great Dunmow and only ten miles from the M11 at Bishops Stortford. The cottage is of traditional timber framed construction with a thatched roof and has further more recent extensions to the rear so providing spacious family accommodation.Until 1934, The Old Stag was the village pub and only came onto the market after the building of a replacement by Ridleys brewery. The purchaser, who paid just £425, was the noteable socialist Kingsley Martin who was editor of the New Statesman and mixed with a wide variety of national figures including George Bernard Shaw, H.G.Wells and Charlie Chaplin. Many of his friends came to visit in Little Easton and he writes lovingly of the cottage in his autobiography. One of his more remarkable visitors was the famous American singer and activist Paul Robeson who sang his well known songs such as 'Old Man River' in the Stag to the astonishment of the locals.
With its charm and fine rural position overlooking the Chelmer Valley The Old Stag will attract the discerning purchaser.
