Full description:
Dulwich's place in London is closely associated with its schools which are some of the finest in England. Household names such as Dulwich College, James Allen's Girls School (JAGS), Alleyns and others have their home here. While the name Dulwich may have its origins as ‘Dill Fields', what Dulwich is today can mostly be attributed to an Elizabethan Actor and Entrepeneur Edward Alleyn who bought Dulwich Manor and subsequently vested his wealth in a charitable foundation known today as the Dulwich Estate which owns most of the land.
Fields and playing grounds literally fill the area. The village can be best described as a divine and well protected primarily catering to families and children. Many of the schools are themselves architectural attractions such as Dulwich College designed by Sir Charles Barry and his son Charles Barry Junior, the former who is responsible for also designing Westminster Cathedral. The village itself has a number of bars, café's and restaurants as well as local shops. There is a park, a golf course and a nature reserve (Sydenham Hill Wood).
Transportation from London is via mainland train . West Dulwich Station is in Travelcard Zone 3, and the station and all trains are operated by Southeastern. The station is exactly 5 miles from London Victoria (10 minutes). Although slightly further away (5 minute car ride), there is a station called Crystal Palace which links straight to Stratford by London Overground.
Alleyn Park is a relatively quiet residential street of large detached period houses running North to South with Dulwich College Grounds on the East Side of the Road and the homes on the West Side. There is low pedestrian footfall and Alleyn Park gets minimal traffic.
An Olympic Charmer for a family looking to spend some time in London looking at the 2012 games and visiting tourist attractions. With an ‘easy living' planned house, a large tiled kitchen to living/dining area and cantilevered doors which open up onto a rear decked/patio, this house definitely lends itself to ‘Al Fresco' dining and summer entertainment. Please apply soon as this one will soon go.
