Sample the delights of Southend-on-Sea

The delightful seaside town of Southend-on-Sea is situated on the north side of the Thames estuary, 40 miles east of central London.

Extending an impressive 1.3 miles (2km) out into the water, The Southend Pier is the longest leisure pier in the world and evokes many happy memories for the many thousands of holidaymakers who flock there year after year.

The Golden Mile runs along the esplanade and is bustling with amusements, stalls, bingo and cafes. There is a vast array of restaurants, and shoppers are well served by the Victoria Shopping Centre and High Street outlets.

On the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, Southend holds a farmers' market.

Life in the fast lane by the Southend seaside

Property in Southend is an interesting mix of old and new, with flats and terraces, plus new build and established estates available on the outskirts of the town. Southend is the seventh most densely populated area in the UK outside the London boroughs.
Regular vintage fairs and markets are held at a variety of locations including the Leigh Community Centre, The Kursaal and The Railway Hotel.
The London to Southend Classic Car Run is a popular event which takes place every summer and features fabulous classic cars lined up along the seafront. Other great crowd-pullers include the annual Southend Shakedown motorbike fest and the Great London Rideout, which arrives at the seafront each year.

Efficient transport system makes life easier

The A127 and the A13 London road are the two main roads that lead to Southend. There are also two railway lines running into the town, Southend Central and Southend Victoria from London, just an hour's journey away. London Southend Airport is flourishing and expanding rapidly.

As a traditional seaside town, Southend-on-Sea is hard to beat, and moving there is a viable option thanks to the range of property for sale and rent and the employment prospects locally. And for London commuters, it definitely ticks all the boxes.
