Search criteria explained
Having specified your location you will be presented with the search criteria page. This is where you can specify the kind of property you are interested in. It may look confusing at first, but these options are explained clearly on this page.
Choose your location
Very often the phrase you type in on the Rightmove homepage will not be enough for us to identfy a unique place. In this case you will be presented with a list as shown above. Simple click on the location that you are interested, or use the change your location link to go back and type another placename.
Search radius explained
Before specifying a radius for your search it is good to understand how Rightmove radius searching works. In the case of locations (e.g. Oxford) and outcodes (e.g. OX14), when 'This area only' is selected you will only get property results within the green shaded area shown in the diagram below. When specifying a radius around a location or outcode, in effect a box is drawn around the area and that box is increased by the distance chosen. This means that in the corner of the rectangle you will find properties that may be greater than the specified distance away from your specified location or outcode.
Postcodes (e.g. L18 4PY) and train stations (e.g. Angel Tube) work differently. Geographically these can be considered as points rather than areas, and when radius searching a circle can be drawn with the specified radius around that. This is how radius searching around postcodes and stations works as you can see in the diagram.
