An area of interest is the WWT Welney Wetland Centre bird/nature reserve which is a great place to visit and explore. The town centre boasts a wealth of historic buildings such as the Gothic clock tower in the centre of the town, considered one of its most distinctive features. Downham Market can trace its history back to Saxon times and is one of Norfolk's oldest market towns. The River Ouse meanders alongside the town, making for a picturesque setting and lovely riverside walks.
