Wellington is a busy country town situated in rural Somerset, standing between the River Tone and the beautiful Blackdown Hills (an area of outstanding natural beauty).  It lies approximately seven miles south west of Taunton.

The award-winning Wellington Park has been restored thanks to a Heritage Lottery grant. The park was designed by F W Meyer of Exeter firm Veitch and Sons and is an important example of late Victorian design. The Friends of Wellington Park arrange a number of events in the park during the summer months.

There are also local nature reserves at Wellington Basins on the western fringe of the town.

Wellington has a large number of speciality and independent shops from which you can buy a wide range of goods.  Local meats and cheeses are available and a Farmers Market is held every first and third Saturday of the month. There are also several pubs and cafés.

The town also boasts three supermarket chains, including Waitrose just off the High Street, which always encourages visitors to the town and provides an upmarket source of shopping.


The schools in Wellington and the surrounding areas have a good reputation.  Wellington has a private school from primary to secondary level, offering excellent education.  

Court Fields School is a state school with a good reputation.

Castle School in Taunton is still within the catchment area, also offering a high level of education.
