    Buying Through Us

      Initial contact with us will usually be via a website, over the phone or in person at one of our nine offices. You can continue to get up-to-date lists of available properties on an ad hoc basis but you may prefer to register with us. This will allow us to send you details of properties just as they come to the market or when prices are revised.

      Our applicant database is web-based and shared instantly across all nine offices so that you need only sign-up once to be matched with any property that fits your requirements.

      You can register, update your details and requirements or de-register through this website. You will receive notification of new properties via e-mail and can download full colour particulars from your web portfolio.

      Alternatively, you can also register by contacting one of our offices where a member of staff will take your details and discuss the current market and properties available with you. We endeavour to get all staff to see the property but, where this has not been possible, someone who has seen it can ring you back.

      If any property is of interest please contact the relevant office to discuss it further and to make arrangements for a viewing.

      Once you make an offer it will be submitted in writing to the vendors. The staff will need to collect personal details from you, if not already known, such as the position of your own sale and availability of finance.

      We will advise you of the outcome of any offer. Once an offer is accepted, we will notify your solicitors at the same time as the vendors. Because agents can speak to both buyers' and sellers' solicitors we will keep in touch with you during the sale process with updates, up to the point at which contracts are exchanged .

      Following exchange of contracts we will liaise with you and the vendor about the hand over of keys at completion. This usually takes place in our office but with planning a member of staff may be able to meet you at the property.

      Mark Lewis FRICS FAAV, Head of Agency,Partner

      Mark was born in Devon but moved to Sturminster Newton Dorset when he was 2 years old and now lives in a village near Sherborne.

      Educated in Dorset he then gained a diploma in Estate Management from the Royal Agricultural College at Cirencester. He spent a short time with a firm of auctioneers in Cheshire before returning to Sturminster Newton to work for Senior & Godwin where his father was Senior Partner.

      Becoming a partner of Symonds & Sampson in 1990 he headed the farm dispersal sales department and was principal livestock auctioneer at Yeovil Market. Mark now heads the residential department and is the firm's chief property auctioneer.

      Away from the office his interests include cooking, renovating his 16th Century house, hockey, cricket and walking in the glorious Dorset countryside with his wife, two children and Labrador.

      Giles Wreford-Brown MNAEA

      Giles was born in Dorchester but grew up in South Devon where his Father was a Rural Practice Chartered Surveyor and livestock auctioneer. School holidays were often spent helping out at the livestock markets or in the Estate Agency offices where an interest in property was first nurtured.

      Following four years in London working in project management for a stockbroking software firm he moved to Wiltshire and joined Symonds and Sampson's Salisbury office in May 2004. A further four years selling property in South Wiltshire and the New Forest followed before the opportunity was taken in June 2008 to work in the beautiful Blackmore Vale and surrounding North Dorset countryside from the firm's Sturminster Newton office.

      Away from work Giles's time is spent with Lara and their four children and among many other activities they enjoy going out as a family and walking with their Springer Spaniel Basil. He has a keen interest in politics, is a very enthusiastic skier and enjoys rugby, tennis and cooking.

      Anabel Merriman MNAEA

      Anabel has a fairly in depth knowledge of moving house having done so 32 times with both her father and husband in the army. Her childhood was spent in UK, Germany, and Hong Kong with family roots and schooling in South Devon and much time spent in Wiltshire before moving to London.

      Anabel worked in London's West End in export sales to Africa and the Middle East until she married and promptly found herself moving away from the bright lights to Scotland whilst her husband did a tour with the Royal Marines. In addition to postings in the UK they have lived in Northern Ireland, Germany and Cyprus.

      Anabel's career has been varied but mostly in the sales environment with a good deal of charity work as well. Anabel is married to Peter and they have 3 children, 2 are still at school in Dorset. They have settled in Wiltshire and Anabel enjoys spending time with her family, music, sailing and skiing.

      Bridget Legg, PA Administrator
      Bridget joined an extremely talented and experienced team at Symonds and Sampson in 2014 and is the first person people meet when they telephone or call into the office.  She is responsible for brochure production and other marketing material produced in connection with the sale of properties.  Bridget's organizational skills are legendary and she has lived in Dorset all her life.

      Rachael James MARLA, Partner - Lettings

      Rachael grew up in North Devon and moved to Dorset after taking A Levels where her career in estate agency started in Blandford Forum working for a national company. After five years, the faster way of life of the South East seemed far more exciting and she spent many years working in Henley-On-Thames as a sales manager. Rachael then found that lettings seemed more of a challenge and she studied for her ARLA qualification.

      Family and the beautiful Dorset countryside were sorely missed and she moved back to Shaftesbury 8 years ago starting her career with Symonds and Sampson at the Dorchester Branch covering the then head of lettings for her maternity leave. An opportunity was then given to start the North Dorset lettings department and she is now based in the Blandford office as Head of Lettings with a large property portfolio.

      Rachael enjoys cooking for family and friends and hill walking around the county with her partner John.

      Edward Dyke FRICS FAAV , Planning Professional
      Edward was born on a dairy farm at Wincanton, in Somerset before attending the Royal Agricultural College at Cirencester. He qualified as a Chartered Surveyor with a national firm in East Anglia prior to then moving to a market firm in Reading where he spent 5 years undertaking rural professional work and some auctioneering. Edward first moved to Dorset in 1994 to work with Andrew Robinson in the Wimborne office of Symonds & Sampson where he spent 4½ years prior to joining a national firm but still based in the Dorset area. Edward has now turned full circle returning to Symonds & Sampson in the Sturminster Newton office in order to head up the Rural Agency and Professional Department. Edward provides professional advice to clients on a wide variety of issues including; Estate Management; Property Valuations; Diversification Projects; Planning for Agricultural Dwellings, new buildings and changes of use; Grant applications; rural finance as an AMC agent and sales and acquisitions. Outside of the office Edward enjoys all sports although that is passive watching as opposed to participation!

      A dairy farmer's son from near Sturminster Newton, Andrew obtained a degree in Rural Estate Management at Seale Hayne College, Devon before working and gaining his MRICS and FAAV qualifications in Somerset, which included 2 years auctioneering at Taunton market. A 3 year spell running a rural agency department in Exeter preceded a move back to North Dorset joining Symonds & Sampson in 2007. Andrew is a key member of the Symonds & Sampson Farm Agency team and also specialises in valuations for security and taxation purposes, tenancy work, general agricultural advice and planning. Andrew is married to Emma with 2 young daughters with whom he enjoys exploring the Dorset countryside with their dog as well as playing hockey for Yeovil and Sherborne, shooting, hunting and skittles. He helped start up his local village shop as Treasurer and is a Committee Member of the HW & D Agricultural Valuers Association and B & SV Hunt Supporters.

      Born in Wiltshire, Chris spent his early years helping on the family farm as well as breeding and showing rare and pure breed poultry. He went on to study at the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester gaining a BSc in Business Management and an MSc in Rural Estate Management. Chris Joined Symonds and Sampson in 2016 to assist Andrew Tuffin and Edward Dyke with farm agency and all aspects of land management Away from work Chris can be found getting his hands dirty on the family farm. He is also a keen shot and skier.

      Rebecca Kaye BSc MRICS Agricultural Professional
      Becks was brought up on an arable farm in Somerset and educated at Kings Bruton and the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester where she studied Rural Land Management. Since leaving Cirencester, Becks has qualified as a Chartered Surveyor and worked for firms in both Somerset and Oxfordshire. Becks gained two years professional experience working as a utilities surveyor advising statutory undertakers on access to private land. This experience has given her an invaluable insight into stakeholder negotiations which will give her an unparalleled advantage when acting on behalf of landowners and farmers.
