Description

If you’re looking for your forever home, one that offers sprawling space, in immaculate condition, in a location where you can spend your time in tranquillity, this is the ideal opportunity for you.

The owners purchased the residence from new in 2001, knowing it was everything they wanted for their family. They’ve been here for nearly a quarter of a century, which is the longest they’ve ever lived anywhere, and testament to what a wonderful home it is.

Moving to Bromham for Harpur Trust schools, the location presented other advantages, including connections locally, nationally and internationally. Mr, now retired, travelled for work, so being close to major roads, airports, and just 10 minutes from Bedford town centre and its station was a real benefit. Trains take you into London in as little as 40 minutes, with the route continuing to Luton and Gatwick for airports, and ending in Brighton for the beach.

The executive estate is nestled among tall trees on the edge of Bromham. It’s really only residents passing through, so it’s sleepy and safe. The village is quiet, with a welcoming community, countryside all around, and the River Great Ouse below. There are amenities, pubs, and the 18th century Bromham Mill, which was recently renovated with a popular café that hosts events and activities. Sports and leisure are within easy reach, with five golf courses within a short drive, watersports at neighbouring Box End Park, and if you’re not feeling active, an Aqua Sana spa at Centre Parcs Woburn Forest. Milton Keynes is recommended for retail therapy, as is Rushden Lakes, both half an hour away.

The house appealed because it was, and still very much is a fantastic family home. Accommodation is abundant and flows well, rooms are very generous, and the owners have improved on the original. They converted one of the garages into an office, and also added a conservatory—their favourite spot. In here, you can appreciate the garden even on grey days, with warmth from underfloor heating. The windows are electric and on a rain sensor, and the roof is tinted.

The kitchen was replaced in 2014, now fitted in extensive oak cabinetry with granite surfaces. There’s an island for preparing, Neff appliances for cooking, and a dishwasher and a ceramic sink for clearing up. There’s ample space for the whole family in the dining area, and the separate dining room is perfect for celebrations and Sunday lunches. The two rooms could be joined up if an open-plan layout is preferred. This family of two parents, three children and eight grandchildren get together every fortnight, the little ones always excited to visit Nana and Grumps’s ‘mansion’.

For overnight guests or large households, there are six bedrooms, all doubles, with the flexible top floor fitting for multi-generational living. The family bathroom, the cloakroom and two of the three en suites have been replaced in recent years, with the master en suite featuring that fabulous freestanding bath, which is just where you’d want to be after a long day.

On a nice day, the south-facing garden is great for sun all day. There’s an expansive lawn, mature beds with a blossom to one corner and bright Japanese acers along the back, and for seating options, there’s a secluded patio to one side and a large deck to the other, with lighting to carry on into the evening. The front of the plot has a driveway for multiple vehicles, as well as a single garage with an electric roller door. Now imagine pulling into the driveway, parking up and heading inside your new home here at Chestnut Avenue.
