We’ve updated our Privacy Policy 

To make sure you have a clear and transparent understanding of how we use your personal information, we regularly review and update our Privacy Policy.

Most of the recent changes in March 2025  have been to simplify wording and add clarity. Here are the key ones that could affect you:

  • Where you operate in a business capacity and are not a member of Rightmove (‘Prospective Member’, we have covered how we collect and process your personal data.
  • When applying for a mortgage in principle, you may be given the option to apply for a Mortgage in Principle for a specific property being advertised on our platforms and we will pre-populate the application with the data of the property you have selected.
  • When requesting an online valuation for your property, you may be given the option to provide additional information about your property to assist our members in valuing your property.
  • We have clarified when you request a valuation of your property, we will share both the valuation request and the names of the agents you selected, with the agents you requested the valuation from.
  • Where using our mortgage calculator, you will be asked additional information to help improve your journey and experience.
  • Where there is functionality offered for you book an appointment to view a property, we will either create a calendar appointment in our members own email system (via calendar software) or our members own booking system in order  you can book and manage your own bookings.
  • Where you make use of our tenant referencing services, where required, we will conduct verification and identify checks to comply with our legal obligations.  This may result in collecting or processing government issued ID, and checking whether you feature on a politically exposed persons or sanctions list.

  • December 2024

    • Where you make use of our tenant referencing services, we have clarified the following:
      • when you apply for an insurance policy through us,  we rely on ‘insurance’ as our condition of processing special category data or criminal offence data.
      • when you wish to make use of utility offerings, we may share your personal information with a utility management company for the purposes of administering utilities at the rental property for Your tenancy.
    • Updated our definition of members to include professional advisers as one of our customer types.
    • Added how we process your data if you use our new feature, Renters Checklist.
    • Clarified that users of platforms may provide us personal information of other parties involved when using our services or making enquiries to us.
    • Added that we may retain some audit and log trail for up to 1 year for security purposes.
    • Clarified that we use tracking pixels in some communications for the purpose of analysing and improving our communications with you.
    • Where you make use of a new feature such as remote valuation request, we may request and process additional data for the purpose of our member being able to provide you a remote valuation.
    • Added that we may use  telephone call transcription providers where required.
  • September 2024

    • Added in more detail about services that can be made available to you via our platforms and the data being processed, such as:
      • booking or requesting property viewings with our members (estate agents, property developers etc).
      • enabling you to identify places of interest to you to show you travel times from properties you are viewing.
      • providing you access to our renovation calculator to help you understand how renovations can impact the value of a property.
    • Clarified that users can see similar properties sold by our members on our platforms.  This  help sellers and buyers perform research on our members and understand the local market.
    • Clarified that where your letting agent uses our tenancy and rental services:
      • they need to form their own lawful basis for sharing referencing information with third parties.
      • they are provided visibility on the progression of insurance and tenant related services regarding their clients in order they can provide the services.
    • To help give potential home movers insights into a property development, estate agent  or developer we have:
      • clarified that our members (estate agents, letting agents, property developers etc.) may publish testimonials or reviews from their clients on our platforms.
      • added that reviews of property developments that have been published on the HomeViews platforms are shared with and may be published on Rightmove for the property developments they relate to.
  • June 2024

    • Where you use our tenancy and rental services, you can provide additional information to receive reminders and notifications relevant to your move such as postal redirects and broadband options.
    • Clarified information we use for profiling activities, such as your activity on our site, information you tell us e.g. whether you are a landlord, your property ownership etc. and how we use this to help our members manage your property enquiries more effectively.
    • Clarified requirements for ID when exercising your rights to ensure we are only acting on the instructions of the data subject.
    • Signposted how you can report a suspected data breach.
  • March 2024

    • We have recently acquired HomeViews Platform Limited, a resident review site, and have referred to their Privacy and Cookie Policies in our Privacy Policy.
    • At a high level, we have outlined where we may use AI (and similar technologies) to help improve our platforms, services and operations.  However, we do not use AI to make any automated decisions which could have a legal or similar effect on you.
    • When enquiring about a rental property, where relevant we may ask additional questions to help our members assess your enquiry and suitability such as whether you have a guarantor in place, type of pet and number of under 18’s that will be moving into the property.
    • Where you have downloaded the IOS or Android Rightmove App, we have referenced the App Data Storage Policy which covers what data we store and why.
  • December 2023

    • Ability to add saved properties to your enquiry list helping you have a better overview of the status of all your property enquiries.
    • If you are undergoing tenant referencing or progressing a tenancy application, where made available you can see visibility of what stage in the tenant referencing process you are at and can progress your tenant refence so that you can be kept up to date on your tenant referencing journey.
    • Our members can now add notes on the status of an enquiry to help them manage the enquiry.
    • Where you interact with broadband quotes on our site, we use a unique identifier to enables us to identify attributed sales.
    • If you contact a mortgage broker via our site, they may share with us details of any mortgage protection quotes or policies that were taken to help us improve our services.
    • Where data is processed in the United States of America we may rely on the UK-US data bridge for transfers in accordance with UK GDPR and ICO guidance to ensure the continued protection of your data.
  • September 2023

    • Updated our Tenant and Guarantor Referencing section to include:
      • that we may collect data on vulnerabilities you disclose to us. This is to support you and improve our services to you and we will share this with insurance providers where an insurance sale is made and where your consent is obtained.
      • where you start or complete a quote for Home Contents and Liability Insurance, we will send you an email reminding you of the quote/ or to complete the quote.
    • Updated our Financial Services section to include additional information we collect if you request assistance from a mortgage broker following your mortgage in principle application.
  • June 2023

    • Highlighted that we customise our direct marketing communications with you based on your use
      of our platforms to ensure a more personalised experience.
    • Clarified that some email correspondence we may retain for longer or shorter time periods than
      our standard 24 months depending on requirements.
    • Clarified we may contact you for market research purposes to help improve our site and services.
    • Highlighted that we provide our members updates on properties to help them meet their legal and
      regulatory requirements.
    • Clarified that our members may provide us your information when they are using our services to:
    • generate supporting evidence for a property valuation you have requested. This is in order
      they can provide the valuation to you.
    • Create a tenancy agreement and take payment for a property you are looking to rent, they
      will provide us details of the person paying the deposit and the deposit certificates.
    • Where you have consented to personalisation (targeting and tracking) cookies we will notify the
      member when you access their supporting evidence for a property valuation you have requested
      from them.
    • for tenant referencing services, we clarified we share contact details of landlords and referees with
      landlords and letting agents for the purpose of performing their own reference checks on the
      tenant and verifying the reference.
  • March 2023

    • We have included a summary of our privacy policy to help highlight the key ways in which we use
      your personal information
    • If you are located outside the UK but within the EU, we have included contact details of our EU
      representative should you prefer to contact them in the first instance
    • We have highlighted that we may identify your activity, your actions taken on our site, your home
      moving status, properties you are advertising and their property status. This is to help us and our
      members identify services you are likely to require, for training purposes and to customise your
      experience of our site and our communications with you.
  • December 2022

    • When enquiring about a rental property, where you are provided the option, you can consent to and request a credit check and reference is conducted and shared with the agent whom you are enquiring about a rental property with. This can help improve and speed up your application.
    • Where telephone calls are recorded between us and our members, we may also process them for the purpose of fulfilling our contract with our member agents and developers. This is to establish the existence of facts in relation to contracts and services provided.
    • Highlighted that where you request a property valuation from our members, we will transfer this request to the members you have selected so they can contact you to arrange a valuation of your property.
    • Highlighted that our member agents may use our systems to store enquiries they have received from other sources (other than via Rightmove) in order they can manage all their enquiries in one central place.
    • Highlighted where we send non -marketing email communications, we analyse open rates and click through information to improve our communications to you.
    • Where you operate as a business, we may be provided information from publicly available sources which help us contact you about our services in a business capacity only.
