I have lived in Norwich and Norfolk since the mid 1980's and my wife and I moved into Thorpe St Andrew in 2006.
I started Morton Reeves back in 2014, since then we have faced some significant challenges like, Brexit and Covid 19, but with excellent recommendations and referrals from past clients we are still growing today.
My career started as a youth trainee for a local independent in Great Yarmouth, as I was earning very little at the time and I took a part time job as well to top up my income! This was back in the mid 90's when the property market was still on its knees from the 1989 crash. The silver lining to this, was that it gave me the time to qualify. I achieved my NVQ level III in estate agency which was actually the only qualification in estate agency at the time. Times were hard, but as a nineteen year old I'd saved up and saw an opportunity to buy my first home. A steal at £23,500. A tiny 2 bed mid terrace house that needed some work... I jumped at it!
My next job in Agency was for a corporate. Wow what a change.
An extremely fast paced office in central Norwich. The volume of business was immense in comparison to what I had been used to. I worked as a viewing rep to prove myself, quickly being promoted to valuer.
I then had the opportunity to work in Suffolk, managing my own branch and I did this for a number of years building up a thriving business. Then one day I had a call from a friend of mine who knew about a job coming up....It was closer to home, working in Wroxham. The company was a more comfortable fit and there are some really lovely homes down on the river in that area, a chance to spread my wings... so that was my next move.
I thought I knew it all!! By this time, I had worked in property for about 10 years and it was a surprise that I really didn't know as much as I thought I did! Dealing with larger property with land or paddocks as well as moorings and river frontage really opened my eyes. I had to learn to value all over again and in a different way. The company I worked for were Chartered Surveyors so I was educated largely by surveyors. My time there was close to 9 years with a brief switch of offices in the middle and a spell in lettings when the market wobbled again in 2007.
In my career I have seen the birth of the internet completely change the way we sell property. We used to have a box of names on the desk and a newspaper advert... Now it's all about the internet. Times have changed...
I believe in treating people how I would want to be treated myself. This means there are no silly questions and I am always available to talk things through.
Generally a home is someone's most valuable asset... I like to take the time to get to know people and to establish what it is that they really want... and how I can help them get there.
