Celebrity trend – basement extensions

In one of our surveys, we asked you what would put you off buying a house the most, and many of you said that you hated noisy neighbours!

It’s quite unusual for people to extend underneath their properties (the majority build up!) in case they cause permanent structural damage. But basement flats can be a novel way of creating valuable space (especially in the capital) whether it’s for a play room, spare wardrobe space or even to make some extra income – even if it does mean becoming a noisy neighbour for a few months.

Andrew Lloyd Webber, Nicole Kidman and David Cameron (before he moved to Number 10!) are among the other celebrities who have extended underground.

If you fancy extra living space underneath your home, need to house a nanny, or really dislike your neighbours, then for around £250,000 you could have your very own basement!
