House for sale halfway up of one of England’s steepest streets

If you’re a fitness fanatic who enjoys energetic walks then you’ll love this Lincolnshire house, as it’s perched halfway up one of England’s steepest streets.

The four-bedroom period property is nestled on Christs Hospital Terrace in Lincoln, a quaint cobbled street that branches off Steep Hill – the fourth steepest street in the country.

Steep Hill has an unusually severe 16.12-degree gradient, making it one of the steepest residential streets in England, according to the Ordnance Survey.

The Grade II-listed townhouse dates back to the 18th Century and its roof terrace offers stunning views of both Lincoln Castle and Lincoln Cathedral.

Nick Wilkinson, 54, who’s selling the property, said: “We fell in love with the place when we first saw it and having lived here for seven years it’s definitely kept us fit in that time.

“It’s great and we love living here. It can get quite busy at times with lots of tourists visiting, but it’s a beautiful spot and at night you look out and can see the castle all lit up on one side and the cathedral all lit up on the other.

“The street itself is cobbled. We usually plan our trips so that we can walk into town and catch a bus back up the hill. Occasionally I’ve left the house without my keys and have had to traipse back up the hill, which is a bit of a mission, but the views are so wonderful that you never really mind.”

The property is located on the edge of the historic Bailgate area of Lincoln, a popular part of the city with picturesque streets and historic interest.

The top five steepest streets in England are: Vale Street in Bristol, Old Wyche Road in Worcestershire, Blake Street in Sheffield, Steep Hill in Lincoln and Gold Hill in Dorset.

Rightmove’s property expert Miles Shipside said: “Lincoln is a beautiful city and this townhouse is right in the heart of it. This listing goes to show the real diversity of property that Rightmove has to offer – we’ve got houseboats, castles, windmills and everything in between – and now we can show what life is like living on one of the steepest streets in the country.”

The property is listed for sale with Mount & Minster.
