What’s for sale in Britain’s happiest places?

We know this year has been challenging, so we wanted to use our annual Happy at Home study to find out what’s helped make people happier where they live.

Our research has found that access to nature and green spaces has become more important this year for home-movers when choosing where to live.

We also discovered that over a third of people (36%) said lockdown has made them like their local area more, with just under one in five (18%) liking their area less.

Overall, people living in rural and coastal areas are most content with where they live, and have also developed a greater affinity with their local area this year.

Taking top spot in this year’s survey is the scenic coastal town of St Ives in Cornwall, followed by Skipton in North Yorkshire.

In London, Richmond upon Thames has been named the happiest place to live in the capital for the sixth year in a row, while Perth leads the way for Scotland and Llandrindod Wells takes top spot in Wales.

In this article, we’ll show you a dream home from each of those areas. Enjoy…

St Ives

Residents of this quaint seaside town are huge fans of their area’s stunning beaches and countryside, and this charming home in the heart of St Ives boasts incredible views of the bay, Godrevy Lighthouse and beyond.

On the market for £1million, this spectacular four-bedroom home has a brilliantly spacious open-plan living area on the first floor. Who needs a TV with views like these?

Our favourite feature are the sliding patio doors that open onto an expansive balcony, where you are able to take in the breath-taking vistas over to Trevose head.

Elsewhere, you’ll find four double bedrooms, two of which comes with en-suites.

Skipton

The picturesque town of Skipton is known as the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, and it’s easy to see why the locals rated their area so highly for its nature and green spaces.

This gorgeous four-bedroom property is nestled among some of the town’s beautiful rolling fields and despite its characterful façade, was built as recently as 2016.

The property is wonderfully light and airy, and boasts an abundance of living space. What’s more, this place is just a short stroll from the bustling High Street, and dog walkers will love the endless walking routes on the doorstep.

Richmond upon Thames

This charming corner of southwest London has been named the capital’s happiest place to live for the sixth consecutive year.

We think that Richmond Park – the largest of London’s royal parks – which is teeming with wildlife, has played a big part in the area being rated consistently highly by its residents.

And this cosy cottage, in the heart of Richmond, is just a hop, skip and a jump from the iconic park. Inside, you’ll find a working fireplace and an array of original features.

The basement level feature bathroom is truly stunning, as it boasts an original beamed roof, and solid brick walls, which are all centred around a roll-top bathtub.

Perth

Built on the banks of the River Tay, Perth is an hour’s drive north of Edinburgh and is known for its thriving culinary scene.

This impressive five-bedroom house is located northeast of the city, in Balcraig, and is tucked away in approximately half an acre of land, overlooking the Murrayshall Country House Hotel & Golf Club below.

The beautiful Two Mile House is timber-framed and clad in the natural stone from an original farmhouse and steading. It has a pitched slate roof with part timber lined and slated dormer windows.

Inside, the home has a sleek and modern kitchen with patio doors opening onto the garden.

Llandrindod Wells

Llandrindod Wells is a town in Powys, which lies within the historic boundaries of Radnorshire in Wales, and it’s home to some of the most picturesque countryside in the country.

This spacious semi-detached home is up for sale for £250,000 and for that you really get a lot of house.

The period property has five bedrooms, as well as two lounge areas, and has been smartly redecorated throughout. We want that charming log burner for our own houses, too!
