Rightmove launches new equity tracking tool

The UK’s biggest property platform Rightmove has launched its new tool Equity Tracker, enabling homeowners to track the equity they’ve built up in their property over time.

The launch is part of Rightmove’s ongoing investment into tools that improve market transparency and help people to make more confident decisions. Rightmove’s mortgage tools help people to be more aware about what they can afford earlier in their journey, to support more informed conversations with agents.

The new tool combines Rightmove’s latest instant valuation pricing data, which is powered by millions of listings and data from HM Land Registry & Registers of Scotland, with user-provided mortgage details to show a live snapshot of homeowners’ equity which they can track over time.

The new Equity Tracker, available within Rightmove’s Instant Online Valuation tool, will also keep homeowners up to date with when their current mortgage deal ends and provide remortgage options from both their existing lender and other lenders.

By factoring in both their mortgage and how their home’s value may have changed over time, this new tool helps people understand what they could potentially afford when they come to buy again, reducing uncertainty and helping them to prepare earlier.

Equity Tracker joins Rightmove’s larger suite of mortgage tools and features designed to help people better understand what they can afford and the value of their current home, so that they’re as informed as possible when it comes time to make their next move. By bringing property search, valuation, mortgages and market insight into one place, Rightmove helps users navigate the home-moving journey more easily and with greater confidence.

Rightmove’s wider suite of mortgage tools includes its mortgage in principle in partnership with NatWest, mortgage payment and stamp duty calculators, valuation tools and renovation insights.

Rightmove’s head of mortgages Matt Smith says: “Understanding the equity you’ve built up is a really key part of planning that next move, so we wanted to make this information more easily accessible alongside valuation and remortgage information. We want to help people to be much more aware of what they can afford earlier in their home-moving journey, so that they are more informed about their financial position when contacting agents about listings for sale. It’s all part of our mission to digitise more of the UK property market, using data and innovative technology to make the home-moving process clearer, faster and more accessible.
