SECINARO - L'AQUILA PROVINCE
Secinaro is located in the Aterno river valley on the slopes of Monte Sirente. It is 859 metres above sea level and has 480 inhabitants. The surrounding territory hides countless species of animals including the golden eagle, wild boar and wolf together with plants such as sweet violet, corn poppy and orchids. It is a region of great natural interest.
There are also plenty of activities to enjoy with many paths for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. In Winter it is possible to go cross-country skiing in the Sirente meadows and downhill skiing just a few kilometres away.
The area around Secinaro is particularly suited to the growth of mushrooms and truffles. In the right months, you can find wild strawberries and raspberries in the mountains, as well as fruits and nuts suitable for producing liqueurs. Other local products include cheeses, sausages and hams. An attractive location for ‘foodies'.
The town hosts a post office, food shop, pharmacy, butcher, newsagent, bar and a couple of restaurants. There is a weekly market held each Monday morning.
