Description
In Studio Salvia, you look down through the trees on Folly Bridge in its many arched magnificence – the cyclists and big buses pass over the top, the idling punts, the narrowboats and river cruisers slide beneath. This studio has the best view of the bridge and the 18th century wharf buildings beyond, which are the Head of the Riverpub. You peer into the very heart of historic Oxford from this room: the old toll house, the crumbling stonework of the piers. At night, they are all lit up and reflected in the water.
Studio Salvia has use of Folly Bridge House's funky wet room. Recently redesigned, like the cabin of a ship, with a quirky stained glass window, you can stand under the rain shower and spy on the boats passing on the river below. The wet room stands at the entrance to the studio and is shared with one other. With tall ceilings and big windows, Studio Salvia is filled with light. The kitchen is equipped with the elegant necessities of city living for two. There is superfast fibre optic broadband and flatscreen TV/DVD. Chairs and tables by the river allow guests to watch the canoes, punts, narrow boats, barges and university rowing crews at play. Only five minutes walk from the top of the High Street, the colleges and shops, Folly Bridge House lets you be in the bright lights in a moment and yet return to the tranquillity of the river.
The House is an Oxford landmark and has been beautifully restored by a potter and a photographer. They describe it as 'eco chic'. Guests can enjoy their collection of modern art and ceramics. A crenellated Georgian tower standing in the River Thames at the point of the original 900 AD oxen ford, it conjures all the romance of the city. This is the spot where Alice in Wonderland was invented by Lewis Carroll. On Folly Bridge, the 13th century philosopher and alchemist Roger Bacon had a tower. From the roof, the River Thames and the dreaming spires of the city spread out before you.
