Energie operated as a grain barge on the Rhine. The Dutch owners lived in the 1 bedroom accommodation below the wheelhouse and bought their 2 sons up on the boat. The crane that can still be seen on deck was used to lift their car on deck when travelling from port to port. The self-contained flat - known as the Wheelhouse Flat, is their original accommodation.

In the late 1990’s Energie was considered too small to continue transporting grain so the Dutch government offered grants to take her out of commission. She was sold to her current owners who bought her to their shipyard in Bristol - David Abels Shipyard.

They lived in the existing accommodation for several years whilst slowly converting her as a home for themselves and their growing family. She has been in their ownership ever since and one of their sons has recently converted the last remaining empty spaces into a 2 bedroomed flat for himself.

The owners have now retired and feel it is time to sell her and find new beginnings for her as she enters her centenary.
