Description

Heading out from their home at Broughton Village on a sunny day, the owners of the house on Dean Forest Way can walk for miles through the park and out into the countryside. Their house has Parks Trust Land opposite and also nestles right beside picturesque Broughton Brook, a park with a stream that is something of a haven for wildlife. “Location was very important to us when we were looking for a house,” she admits. “We loved the fact that this property gave us access to Broughton Brook and lots of other nice walks. We are right at the end of Broughton Village and can head off on foot or by bicycle and yet can also get into central Milton Keynes quickly if we need to or out to major roads to travel elsewhere in the country.”

VERSATILE ACCOMMODATION

Built by McCann Homes 12 or 13 years ago, the five-bedroom house has a traditional appearance. It offers accommodation across three storeys and has a very private garden. “We liked the size of the house and the fact it offered very good-sized rooms and versatile accommodation,” she recalls. Since moving in, the owners have enhanced it with a few touches of their own, including having Sharps furniture fitted into a home office and to create a dressing room with wardrobes. They have also removed carpets, installed an electric car charger and had a high-end Fisher & Paykel oven fitted. “We have also carried out general decoration throughout the house, opting for Farrow & Ball colours, such Stiffkey Blue for the study and sitting room.”

INSIDE AND OUT

The handsome, country house-style property is entered from a front door slightly to the side that opens into a central reception hall. There is a large storage cupboard and then, to the left, the home office or study, which has a bay window looking out to the front of the house. Double doors opposite lead into the airy sitting room, which is a very generous space with windows on three sides. “This is a lovely large room, with French windows on to the garden, which makes it ideal for entertaining in the summer months. The house generally feels quite open, so guests can spread out and wander across from the kitchen dining room, then out into the garden if there are lots of people.”

FAMILY TIME

There is also access to a ground-floor cloakroom from the hall. The kitchen dining room can be entered from the hall or the utility room, which in turn opens into the garden. There is a central island and breakfast bar in the kitchen, as well as ample space for a dining table and chairs. “The layout of the house has worked very well for us as a family,” she agrees. “We also have a second sitting room or family room up on the first floor of the house. This is actually the largest bedroom but we use it as a television room or playroom. This is where we like to watch family films together.”

HIGHER LIVING

Two very generous bedrooms, each with an en suite shower room are also at this level, together with the family bathroom, which has a freestanding bath. “We have two children so they are able to have a bedroom each here,” she says. “All of the bedrooms in this house are good-sized doubles.” The two remaining bedrooms are on the top floor, along with another shower room. The current owners effectively use this entire floor as a master suite. They have the master bedroom up here and use the fifth bedroom as a dressing room and the shower room as an en suite. “Again, this has suited us very well but other people may decide they wish to transform the dressing room back into a bedroom again, which is very possible,” she adds.

GREEN AND OPEN

The low-maintenance garden has been a great addition to the house in the summer months. The garage, which is currently used as a gym, has also been an excellent additional space. Again, new owners may decide they wish to enjoy this as a leisure area with another purpose, a work room or a garage once more. “We have been very happy here,” she adds. “It is a very private place to live, the garden is not overlooked, the house offers the flexibility we were looking for and we love having all this green, open space around us. This house has provided us with the perfect balance we were looking for.”
