The property is situated near the pretty little town of Saint Séverin which has basic amenities.  Other places definitely worth exploring include Saint Aulaye and Chalais.  The fabulous market at Perigueux is always an exciting place to pick up some very tasty treats and the market at Riberac is also a good size.  Verteillac has regular food and music events on summer evenings and Brantome and Bourdeilles is a regular feature on the canoeing / river exploring / picnicking itinerary.  Angouleme train station is about 40km away, and there is also a railway station 40mins away at Montpon-Ménestérol which has a 1hr direct rail link straight into the centre of Bordeaux.
