The total accommodation extends to over 17,000 sq ft, with generously proportioned rooms for entertaining, dining, family areas and domestic duties across two floors. There are views from every window across the deer park and the surrounding grounds, providing a different outlook on each side of the house. Many attractive features include marble baths, exquisite original fireplaces, capacious window bays, wall panelling and ceiling detailing. The owner has made significant improvements to a number of spaces including a fully renovated kitchen/family room on the ground floor and updates to most of the bedrooms and bathrooms.
The property is entered via a commanding entrance hall featuring an imposing chandelier, fireplace and oak staircase leading up to a galleried landing. The formal ground floor accommodation includes a fabulous dining room on the east side of the house and a separate drawing area to the south. In addition there is an especially lovely open plan kitchen/breakfast/family room which is ideal for informal entertaining and serves as the hub of the home, with zoned areas for food preparation, dining and relaxing. The room has been recently refurbished and is presented in an industrial modern style, with twin kitchen islands, modern light fixtures, sleek designer kitchen units and a variety of premium integrated Smeg appliances.
There is one accessible bedroom with adjoining w.c. on the ground floor, with doors to the garden, which could equally be used as an additional reception or study space. On the first floor, there are several options for a main bedroom suite including four very generous bedrooms either with full en suite or jack and jill style bath or shower rooms. The remaining bedrooms are all king or double size with use of shared bathroom facilities.
Domestic accommodation includes a large laundry room with ample storage, a generous boot room, two artifact rooms, a cook’s kitchen for catering staff and a separate pantry, a large garage and a tack room. A self-contained apartment on the first floor provides a kitchen, dining space, sitting room, two bedrooms and two bathrooms for staff, and has its own entrance and staircase from the ground floor. There are many more ancillary rooms providing storage and w.c. facilities.
Lydney Park is surrounded by its grounds and well-presented gardens, which are open to paying public visitors during the spring a couple of days each week. A sweeping tarmacadam driveway leads through impressive farmland including a deer park where there are grazing deer; the driveway is shared with the Coach House and Top Cottage. There are large parking areas to the front and north side of the property, where there is also access to an integral garage. The beautiful formal gardens were landscaped in the 1950s to include two impressive fountain pools, shrub gardens, herbaceous borders, terraces and parkland areas, with expansive views beyond the lawns to the surrounding farmland and countryside. The park is home to many substantial, exotic and rare trees which have been planted by successive generations of the family. A wide-ranging replanting programme has also ensured excellent colour during the spring, including flowering cherries, magnolias, scented shrubs and a plethora of spring bulbs at the entrance to the estate. There is also a separate eight-acre woodland garden featuring oak, chestnut, rhododendrons, azaleas and acers.

Additional Info
Lydney Park is a Grade II-listed historic country house, situated in stunning grounds to the west of Lydney near the Forest of Dean. The property offers an exciting proposition to reside in one of the area’s loveliest country homes, which is designed in the traditional Victorian style and is noted for its historical and architectural interest. The original property was built here for the Wintour family, prominent supporters of King Charles I, and was acquired by Benjamin Bathurst in 1719, whose descendants have owned the property since. This road-side house was demolished and in 1877 a new home, as seen today, was built in centre of the deer park, designed by the architect C H Howell. The property has remained in the ownership of the Bathurst family since its acquisition and subsequent rebuilding, now owned by the fourth Viscount Bledisloe, Rupert Bathurst. The attractive property is of a rambling, country house design constructed of rock-faced coursed limestone under a tile roof, with multiple statuesque chimney stacks providing an imposing first impression.
The house is composed of several wings, with the main entrance to the north flanked by a projecting wing, a separate museum wing, and to the south an additional wing facing towards the river Severn and incorporating a tower. Indeed, many original features of the property have been preserved, including mullioned and plate glass sash windows, an octagonal turret, circular turret, and most notably the motto of the Bathurst family, ‘TIEN TA FOY’, meaning ‘keep thy faith’. Internally, the house retains much of the original wood panelling, a fabulous grand open well oak stair, a secondary stair added in 1910 and various examples of original doors, fireplaces and decorative ceilings.
