Description
A stunning conversion of a former barn in a small, gated development of four homes, set in the heart of this sought-after village. No onward chain.
The home itself is situated as part of a delightful courtyard setting. Of the four properties, this is the original barn which was converted in 1999 and has been with the same owner ever since. A noticeable historic feature is the fire hooks on the outside roadside wall which remain with the property. The hooks were used to tear burning straw from the thatched roofs of houses and haystacks to prevent the fire from spreading. The poles were renewed several times but the hooks are believed to be much older. They may even have been made following the disastrous fire which destroyed most of West Lavington in 1689.
The charming accommodation boasts original beams and plenty of character throughout and briefly comprises: entrance hall; large open plan sitting/dining room with a fireplace that isn’t currently being used but could be by adding a flue and installing a wood burner; a traditional style kitchen; useful utility room; large family bathroom; two good sized bedrooms; and the principal bedroom with en-suite shower room. All bedrooms have stable-style doors leading outside and it is worth noting that the ceiling in the main family room could possibly be removed by the new owners to create a magnificent double-height vaulted ceiling. There is a huge loft, which has been partially boarded and is reached by a sturdy loft ladder.
Externally there is a patio area to sit and enjoy a morning coffee, and a border to do some gardening. There are two allocated parking spaces and one further, dedicated parking space in the car port which also has some further storage space.
The home is fully double glazed, the doors and windows (except the skylights) were all replaced in 2020, and it is warmed by oil fired central heating - both the oil tank and boiler were replaced in 2021.
Much-loved for many years, this charming home now offers a blank canvas for new owners to enjoy it themselves.
