Northop is the gateway for Dr's, so I'm told, because it's perfectly positioned by the A55 for fast access to Bodelwyddan, Wrexham and Chester General Hospitals. So, for those on call in any of these locations, you can get there very quickly. It also has a village shop and Post Office, two pubs, and a handy 6th Century Church.
Now, having lived in Northop for nearly forty years, I never even knew these homes existed, they are tucked away down a road that, really you would have no reason to know existed. So when I was asked to pop out and write about one of them, I was intrigued.
From the road, you would be forgiven for mistaking this as a little farmstead. That's the origin of the home here, and the work put into preserving the style and look of the area is apparent in every inch of the works of art created.
The home we are looking at was originally one of three homes converted from the former stables, across from the old mill. The old stone walls have been supplemented with beautiful red bricks and tied in with elegant black trim and slate shingles.
Called the courtyard, this home is one half of the farmhouse buildings that surround the inner courtyard, it's a huge house in both aspect and character.
The main entrance presents with a paved pathway, blended with a small rockery and flowerbed that leads up to an ebony coloured doorway that is set into an 'olde worlde' style stone extension of the original build.
Through the doorway, we enter into an open-plan entrance hallway that opens to a simply stunning kitchen space. Here it incorporates elements of an old farmhouse kitchen while adding in big doses of lavish modern flair. At the head of the kitchen sits an Aga range cooker, that's set into a fireplace style endcap, and a set of Belfast Sinks looks out onto your separate office space or games room.
Exposed beams in the kitchen, a concealed loft space in the rafters all give that vintage feel while the white fixtures and royal blue breakfast bar, with its solid wooden top with an induction hob set into it, which gives the feel of modernity. The island is a place where you can sit and enjoy your meals and drinks and socilaise with the family or friends. Just across from it, are a set of Bi-Fold doors that open up and bring the inside out.
A door next to the Bi-Folds opens into a utility room, where a load of fabulous storage cupboards have been beautifully fitted for neatness, they also home the boiler too. Another door opens to the garden, in case you are not up for opening the Bi-Folds darling..
Heading out of the utility area, the next door opens into the handy cloakroom. This has been decorated in style, with slate wall tiles to two sides and the rear wall, is simply gorgeous. Plain white furnishings enhance this space, with a simple fitted pedestal sink unit, and a single toilet to the rear wall. A rather lovely chromed heated towel rail finishes this room off perfectly.
A couple of stone steps next to the front door, lead up to a small hallway nook, which in turn leads to a snug and also the lounge and dining area.
The snug, which is larger than most peoples' main living rooms, leads off to the right of the steps. This is a warm and cozy space with a large white-washed brick fireplace, that houses a simple log burner. A mix of plastered walls and exposed stone and brickwork, continues the farmhouse style theme and also makes the room snug and comfortable. There is a quality oak engineered wooden floor and a window that allows ample light into this space.
At the head of the hallway, we enter into the dining area which then opens into the lounge....these rooms are breathtaking. It's got to be as long as a bus, (roughly but to give you an idea) and wide enough to contain large furniture.
The dining room can have a table that can be as large or small as you want, obviously depending on your requirements, because the room opens into the lounge area offering space to house many people. Another gorgeous open brick fireplace houses an electric log-burner this time.
The lounge is immaculately presented with again, a blend of rendered sections and exposed stonework and beams. There is a floor to ceiling windows with an exposed brick archway over, to help keep the room luxuriously bright and airy. Stylish old-school radiators adorn most walls throughout the downstairs and tie in perfectly with the elegant stylings throughout. A fabulous open stone fireplace contains another multi-fuel burner which, when both are lit in these rooms, would be something quite beautiful and warm, to say the least!
Heading up the solid oak staircase, we come to a fabulous landing with more exposed brickwork and beams.
To the right of the head of the stairs, we find the first of the bedrooms. This is the smallest of the four, but is still a wonderful size! Capable of fitting a bed larger than most main bedrooms could take, and still room for some wardrobes and chest of draws. It's kept light and airy with two skylights and the crisp white décor on wooden floors.
The next room is a little bigger than the previous one but still has that same bright décor and hard wood floor. This room differs slightly from the last in that it comes with an integrated wardrobe to handle your storage needs. A window lets plenty of light in and overlooks the courtyard, for which the home gains its namesake!
Next along the hallway sits the third bedroom. It's a mirror of the neighbouring bedroom, so needs not much saying. It's still bright and cozy, just in reverse and equally as lovely!
The next room along is the family bathroom. Finished in that same gorgeous rustic style as the downstairs cloakroom, but this time with some extras, one being a large walk-in glass shower. There is a stylish wall mounted sink and at the far end, sits a big bath to lounge around in while reading a good book. By the door is a large airing cupboard for all your towels and linens to stay warm and fresh!
Finally, the last rooms on the tour of this fantastic home is the main bedroom and en-suite shower room.
The en-suite is just as beautiful as the rest of the bathrooms in the house with the same walls and floors, white fittings and a large glass shower with rain forest head. There is a chrome heated towel rail to finish this room off and to help keep your towels nice and toasty.
Extravagant and luxurious is an understatement for this bedroom. With its dual aspect windows snuggly fitting into the exposed walls, this room is huge with space for a super kingsize bed and still have plenty of room for freestanding wardrobes and dressing tables. It's brightly finished and with exposed beams and brickwork to give that vintage farmhouse feel, splashed together with a modern flair, all to give a truly cozy space to relax in.
Stepping outside and directly across from the front door, is the separate office space, or annex, games room...whatever you wish to call it.
If you need to work from home or have a hobby or craft in which you operate from home, then you have the perfect space here to indulge in peace and quiet, without sacrificing your bedrooms or dressing rooms. It comes with a wall of fitted cupboards** and a desktop that runs the full length of the room. The floor is solid oak engineered wood, with a wall crafted from wooden planks to give it that rustic feel, this is a room that most people can only dream of having, away from the main home, but close enough to be very useful.
**please check with the owners if this is included in the end sale price.
Next, off to the side of the house, we find a side gate that opens into the rear garden. A large lawn space with stone patio as a surround, capped with a pergola and a couple of sheds for storing your mower and gardening tools. High hedges all round ensure your privacy and the whole garden is so big that you are going to be sun-soaked no matter what time of day! Towards the Barn and your Bi-Fold doors, is a large patio area, fabulous for BBQ's and social gatherings, and also a place for your outdoor furniture.

All in all, if you are looking for that taste of the rustic and vintage, a blend of modern flourishes and a space far enough from the world yet not so far removed that you can't just nip to the local shops, then look no further. This is a fantastic opportunity to own, one of only a handful, or beautiful old stone and brick-built Barns, that were converted into highly desirable dwellings. The rooms are exquisite, the styling is superb, the fixture and fitting are gorgeous and it comes with a handy outbuilding that's been kitted out as an office but would make a fabulous games room or even annex - go on, spoil yourself, buy this home :)
