Warm yourself by the crackling cheer of the log-burning stove in the lounge-dine, a cosy and sociable space in which to relax and unwind in the evening with family.
Stairs lead up from the kitchen to the upper floor, where two comfortable double bedrooms offer rest and relaxation after a busy day.
A soothing spa-style bathroom with shower, wash basin, WC and heated towel radiator serves the two bedrooms.
Note the characterful features seen throughout - the exposed beams, curved walls and angled ceilings - a home designed to flow around this ancient landscape.
Breathe in the fresh Lakeland air with a nightcap on the private terrace at Striding Edge, as you plan your next day's adventures.
Historic setting
Striding Edge Cottage, Swirral Edge Cottage and Tower Cottage are uniquely named - the only homes to bear the title in the region. Set on the site of the historic Greenside Mine, once quarried for precious silver and lead, these enchanting homes are poised at the foot of one of England's most famous mountains; Helvellyn.
An enduring favourite, the route up Helvellyn, named Britain's best walk in 2018, is signposted within eyesight of the collection of cottages. The legendary Striding Edge route is noted among the climbing echelons as a classic Grade 1 scramble, however a less exposed route is offered via Swirral Edge. On a clear day, spy Scotland over 170 miles away from the summit.
With walks to suit all ages and abilities, local peaks up for bagging include the more palatable Lower Man at 925 metres. With a range of walks suitable for different levels and experience, there is much scenery to be admired nearby. One option is a circular route via Red Tarns, to the midpoint of Swirral Edge and on to Catstycam, taking in Birkhouse Moor and Helvellyn. Other mountains to explore include Browncove Crags and Great How.
In wintertime, with sufficient snowfall, the cottages at Glenridding take on a ski-chalet ambience, as the surrounding slopes operate as part of the world-famous Lake District Ski Club; replete with tow lift!
Set above the shores of Ullswater, the second largest body of water in the Lake District, book onto a kayak tour with the local guides in Glenridding village or sit back and relax on one of the steamers, taking in the sights of Aira Force, How Town and Pooley Bridge. Dating back to 1877 and 1889, the 'Lady of the Lake' and 'Raven' offer a glimpse of history as they transport you across the deep waters of the lake, taking in spectacular scenery along the way.
A land of extremes, yet home to some of the most delicate species of wildlife - keep your eyes peeled for a glimpse of alpine butterfly the mountain ringlet. Pay a visit to the dramatic ruins and spectacular gardens of Lowther Castle, close by, with its shop and café and large adventure playgrounds.
With shops and pubs available in the village of Glenridding, further along the shores of Ullswater you can also call in on the picturesque villages of Patterdale and Pooley Bridge. The Lake District is renowned for its Michelin-starred cuisine, which can be experienced roughly 30 minutes' away at The Cottage in the Wood in Grasmere, The Old Stamp House in Ambleside and at Askham Hall in Penrith.
The source of inspiration for poets John Keats, William Wordsworth and artist Benjamin Robert Haydon, the legacy and romanticism of Helvellyn and its surrounding areas cannot be understated.
For a luxury retreat, make lasting memories with friends, family and loved ones, at Glenridding.
