Huntingdon

Huntingdon, was until 1974, the principal town of the old county of Huntingdonshire. Today it is a thriving East Anglian market town situated 18 miles north west of Cambridge at the junction of the A14 and the A1 main trunk roads. Huntingdon is also served by the main line route from London Kings Cross to Scotland and is situated on the river Great Ouse.

Huntingdon is twinned with Salon de Provence, France, Werteim am Main, Germany and Szentendre, Hungary.

The most famous son of Huntingdon, Oliver Cromwell lived his early years at Hinchingbrooke House now incorporated within Hinchingbrooke Secondary School. Another famous character was the colourful politician, the 4th Earl of Sandwich who was the inventor of everybody's snack - 'the sandwich'.

There are many popular areas of attraction from tranquil walks by the river Great Ouse and Grafham Water to Country Parks, Golf Courses and Fitness Studios. An enjoyable day out can also be had at Huntingdon Racecourse.
