This is a unique opportunity to purchase a ground floor property located in what is considered to be the most historic street in the Outer Hebrides having featured in the film Whisky Galore.
The former Spar shop offers the potential for a variety of uses including retail, a gallery, a restaurant, office space or to be converted to residential use subject to any necessary planning consents.
The interior walls have been completely stripped back to expose the original stone with two inset fireplaces. There are a couple of steps down to the storeroom/WC to one side of the building. The main area has a high ceiling giving a light and airy feel.
The property is a blank canvas, ripe for conversion and ready for its next chapter!
Location:
Castlebay is the main area of population on the island, named after Kisimul Castle which stands on a rocky outcrop in the bay and home to the main services and facilities on the island including a primary and secondary school, community centre (with swimming pool), supermarket, post office, hospital, doctors and dental surgeries as well as a number of hotels and cafes, which in the summer months are normally busy with tourists. Castlebay is also the main ferry terminal for the island with the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry making daily visits in the summertime from Oban, in the wintertime the ferry runs a more restricted service. A further smaller ferry operates from Ardmhor on Barra to Eriskay and regular scheduled flights operate from Glasgow and Benbecula with the famous cockle sands being used as a runway when tides permit.
The Island of Barra forms part of the Outer Hebrides. The coastline of Barra is made up of rocky inlets interspersed with wonderful white sandy beaches and offers some stunning scenery, rare flowers and wildlife. The island measures approximately eight miles by five miles with its main road providing a full circuit around the island. From the main road other minor roads lead off towards the scattered townships on the island where you will find a number of small craft outlets and cafes.
