Description

A charming, characterful, Grade II Listed, period cottage, dating back to the 17th century and believed to have been extensively restored in 1927. The Historic England National Heritage List for England listing for Compton Mead (which incorporates 1 - 6 Compton Mead) refers to number 6’s datestone H/R/E/1690 and Compton Mead having been extensively restored 1900-1927, with various dates incised above doorways of each cottage. 1927 can be seen in the stonework either side of the entrance to number 6. The listing refers to the ovolo-moulded mullioned windows with small leaded pane casements, amongst the features of the Compton Mead terrace of cottages.

Inside, an entrance lobby opens into a cosy, but well-proportioned, sitting room, with period features, a log-burner and steps leading up to a further reception room to the rear. This second reception room is another lovely room, with exposed stone and beams, and windows overlooking the gardens to the side and rear.

A cottage-style kitchen, a pantry, a utility room and a ground floor WC complete the ground floor accommodation. There is access to the rear garden via the second reception room and the utility room.

Upstairs, there is a bath/shower room and three bedrooms, all with windows to the front, with views of surrounding period property and fields beyond.

Outside, there is a good-sized, wrap-around garden, to the rear and side of the property, with a sunny, southerly aspect, consisting of patio and lawn areas, plus roses and various plants/shrubs/hedges within flower beds/borders.

This property also benefits from a couple of parking spaces within a car park area nearby, via level, paved path access to the rear of the property. The parking is not part of the freehold of 6 Compton Mead, it is via a perpetual, free licence/permit arrangement, from the local landowner/estate, which has been in existence for the last 30 years.
