Green Hammerton is a much sought-after village which lies on the northern edge of the Yorkshire ‘Golden Triangle’. It is located between York (10 miles), Harrogate (12 miles) and Boroughbridge (7 miles), with easy access to the motorway network from Junction 47 of the A1. Leeds city centre is 25 miles distant.

Railway stations at Hammerton and Cattal are each just 1.5 miles away, providing regular trains to York, Harrogate and Leeds. York railway station has regular services to major cities including Manchester, Edinburgh and London with some journeys taking less than two hours to Kings Cross.

The village of Green Hammerton offers a wide range of amenities including a church, public house, post office with shop and cafe, doctor’s surgery, primary school (Ofsted Good 2019), sports field, a modern and active village hall with playground, hosting a number of clubs and groups. There is a local cricket and junior football club.

The nearest secondary schools are Wetherby High School (Ofsted Good 2019), King James’s School, Knaresborough (Ofsted Good 2012), Boroughbridge High School and Manor C of E Academy at Poppleton (all within 7 miles). Independent schools in the area include Queen Ethelburga’s College (3 miles), Cundall Manor (13 miles) and Bootham, The Mount and St. Peter’s in York.

There are several easily accessible ‘out of town’ supermarkets in the area, ranging from Aldi and Morrisons to Waitrose and Marks and Spencer.

Nearby, York city centre is dominated by the magnificent York Minster, surrounded by the quaint ‘Shambles’ (lanes) packed with independent shops, pubs and cafes. The city boasts excellent restaurants including the award winning ‘The Star Inn the City’ by Andrew Pern, ‘Skosh’ by Neil Bentinck and the Michelin-starred restaurant ‘Roots’, by Tommy Banks.

The Victorian spa town of Harrogate features an impressive range of amenities and facilities, from beautiful architecture and gardens to a wide range of boutique, independent shops and eateries. RHS Garden Harlow Carr lies just beyond the town centre.

Both York and Harrogate are host to the famous Yorkshire institution of ‘Bettys’ café and tea rooms.

The small town of Boroughbridge has a thriving high street with inviting cafes, shops, pubs and restaurants. In nearby Aldborough it is possible to explore the remains of the Roman town of Isurium Brigantum, while to the east the historic National Trust property of Beningbrough Hall is well worth a visit.
