Description
Welcome To Union Castle House!
NO FORWARD CHAIN!
Marco Harris are extremely excited to offer this two bedroom first floor duplex apartment located in the characterful and highly desired Union Castle House. Union-Castle House is situated on the south side of Canute Road just east of Queen’s Park, a fabulous area to enjoy some summer sun. It was built in 1846/47 by Alfred Giles as the new Customs House. This Grade II Listed building is simply stunning and has unrivalled character. Located conveniently on the outskirts of Ocean Village this location provides an array of local amenities. In Ocean Village itself you can enjoy some marina view dining at the Harbar Hotel, Blue Jasmine & Banana Wharf just to name a few. If eating out is high on the agenda, then we highly recommend Bacaro for its outstanding Roasts and Cocktails. In the other direction and also within walking distance you can find yourself on Oxford Street, arguably one of Southampton’s most famous food & drink districts with plenty of award-winning food and great city vibes. Situated on one of Southampton’s main bus routes you can travel around the City Centre.
Communal Entrance & Ground Floor
The apartment itself is on the first floor of this grand building and we have to talk about the communal entrance. As you walk through the double doors you will be greeted with greatness and a sense of history and class, an atrium with skylights and completed with mood wall lighting and sensational central chandelier.
Now into the apartment, an entrance hall with storage under the stairs and space for outerwear. This leads into the entry level restroom which will be very important when you entertain. Further rooms on this level include the kitchen & living room. The current owners utilised the corner of the living room as an office space, making working from home a breeze. The living room features three recently replaced, hand made large sash windows that are south facing, allowing an abundance of natural light to flood the entire room. The sash windows include bespoke wooden shutters. What makes this room so amazing is the combination of original character and sleek décor.
The recently fitted kitchen is quite the contrast completed with dark grey units and white Quartz worktop. The kitchen boasts an array of built in appliances, including two NEFF ovens & gas hob, Bosch dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washing machine and most importantly, a wine cooler. The kitchen seamlessly blends with the dining area and is spacious enough to comfortably seat 6-8 people.
First Floor
Upstairs this apartment continues to impress. Both bedrooms are unique and feature mezzanine balconies overlooking the downstairs. The large sash windows are visible from the bedrooms and allow views over Southampton’s docks. The two bedrooms are elegantly finished and offer ample space for double beds and wardrobes. Finishing off the bedrooms is the fantastic addition of both including en suite shower rooms.
Union Castle House History
Situated on the site of the former Royal Gloucester Baths, which had been demolished during excavations for the docks in 1838, Union-Castle House was built in 1846/47 by Sir Alfred Giles as the new Customs House. This replaced the old Customs House on Town Quay. In 1892, the building was taken over by the Union Castle Line, and when the Union and Castle lines amalgamated in 1900, the building became the Southampton office of Union-Castle line as Part of Southamptons rich naval history. The building was converted in 2001 into exclusive apartments situated around the grand main hall. The history of this building remains with evidence of this being seen in the great hall.
