A note on Workington leasehold

Most of Workington Town Centre properties are leasehold, which dates back to when the Curwen family owned most of the land.  They are on a peppercorn rent, usually between £1-£3, and were on a 999-year lease.  Most will have around 840 and 860 years remaining.  They are managed by Cumberland Council and are effectively treat as freehold.  You don't need to ask for permission to make any alterations, other than if you needing planning permission.
