Location - Stretham
Stretham is a charming village located in Cambridgeshire, approximately 4 miles south-west of Ely and about 12 miles from Cambridge, with good transport links via the A10. Situated on the banks of the River Great Ouse, the village is surrounded by fenland countryside and benefits from a riverside walk leading from Stretham to Ely or towards Cambridge, providing beautiful views.

One of Stretham’s most notable landmarks is the Stretham Old Engine, a steam-powered pump originally used to drain the fens. It is now powered by electricity and remains an important symbol of the village, with open days available throughout the year for visitors to enjoy.

The village offers a range of amenities, including The Red Lion pub, which serves food and provides accommodation, as well as a Post Office and convenience store. There are local schools, play areas and community events, as well as a large sports field and several local clubs and activities, such as the Stretham Bowls Club, Stretham Football Club, and a local Scout group. Stretham is also home to St. James’ Church, a Grade II listed building with origins in the 12th century, extensively restored in the 19th century and offering regular services and events for the whole community.

Stretham’s proximity to both Ely and Cambridge provides further access to a wider range of amenities and cultural experiences, making it a well-connected yet peaceful village that we wouldn’t want you to miss!
