Description

A Grade II Listed, 18th century Lodge House that was part of a Lincolnshire estate of historic importance, privately nestled on the edge of magnificent parkland, forms an idyllic world of its own, yet is within easy reach of towns, cities, the east coast and Norfolk. Rich in original character and immaculately presented, this charming Lodge House has 3 bedrooms and a living room with stunning views across the 11 acre parkland, filled with fine mature specimen trees. Superbly restored throughout, The Lodge House includes a handmade, country style, solid wood kitchen brimming with historic ambience. The quaint gardens include a lawn and woodland with enchanting hideaways to relax whilst enjoying the views across the historic landscape. A restorative sense of calm is immediately imbued upon entering the beautifully landscaped setting, a feeling of warmth and cosiness continues throughout the entire property.

This charming Lodge House was designed as part of the West Skirbeck Hall estate in 1795 and completed in 1802 by Henry Clarke, a wealthy brewer, banker and merchant who served as Mayor of Boston in 1805 and 1816. Worthy of mention in Pishey Thompson’s book ‘The History And Antiquities Of Boston’, described as the handsome Lodge at the gated entrance of West Skirbeck Park enhancing the character of London Road.

A prominent figure, William Garfit, acquired the Hall in 1872; from 1754 he owned 12 private banks in Lincolnshire and was a founder of Lloyds Bank. Many Garfit family portraits can be found in the National Portrait Gallery, London.

Completely renovated with all historical features and character preserved, The Lodge House offers a rare opportunity to acquire a home of historical importance for Lincolnshire. A charming fusion of modern conveniences set within an historical setting brimming with original features.

“Christmas is fabulous here, tremendously atmospheric and cosy gazing through the large sash windows across the magnificent views of the parkland, especially when dusted with snow. A warm, inviting atmosphere is enjoyed every year during the festive season!”

The Lodge House is magnificently decorated and has been exceptionally well maintained. “We have used quality paints in heritage colours such as Farrow & Ball and Heritage Dulux; we restored all the original sash windows, fire surround, doors and the bathroom has been completely refurbished. The country style kitchen was handmade by Murdoch and Troon and features solid oak worktops and cupboards, it features Belfast sinks alongside shaker style glass cupboards, cooker surround and plate rack, all sympathetically lit for atmosphere and convenience”

The woodland copse to the rear of the lawn is a wonderful fairytale setting for picnics and barbecues, totally secluded and private. The wild deer can be seen roaming between the trees at dawn and dusk and the garden is a haven for birds and woodland wildlife.

The lawn is situated to the back of the house via pathways that meander around the Lodge House, all landscaped with mature planting to provide interest all year round. The lawn is a perfect place to sunbathe throughout the day and then relax in the evening appreciating the evening light with a glass of wine.

Just recently, the Lodge House has been made suitable for extraordinary holiday accommodation. “We have fitted a new boiler and historical style radiators with a thermostatically controlled facility, the The Lodge has had a total re-wire, all new bathroom fittings, all new designer wood kitchen and a newly installed security alarm system connected to 24/7 security attention.
