In the sphere of home buying people seem to fall into two categories: those who hanker after the peace and quiet of country living and those for whom the convenience and buzz of city life are essential.

For those of the latter opinion this particular home should be required viewing, offering a level of finish that is a tribute to the care that has gone into its recent refurbishment and having, in spite of its city centre position, plentiful off road parking. This, as any Mold resident will tell you, is worth its weight in gold. OK maybe not quite but you get my drift, as anything helping prevent the daily battle with passing traffic wardens and the occasional £70 fine is to be welcomed.

To the front of this ex-local authority semi detached home, the entire garden area has been given over to hard standing, providing parking for several vehicles. Beside this, a path runs down the side of the home to where a sturdy wooden gate prevents unwanted visitors letting themselves into the main garden to the rear - although there are no such people in Mold!

A very attractive and modern front door opens into the main hall where it immediately becomes obvious that this is no ordinary ex-council semi, as your eye is caught by the impressive wood flooring and the huge arch opening up the area to include the front facing lounge, while the staircase rises in front of us.

The lounge is tastefully decorated and while already of a perfectly acceptable size, is made to feel so much bigger by the way the arch includes the hall space in a very attractive fashion. I visited this home not expecting anything too far out of the ordinary but if this was the start, how would the rest fare? Very well, as it turned out.

A semi glazed solid wood door at the top of the hall opens into the kitchen, which would not look out of place in the pages of HELLO magazine where some minor celeb, who once appeared in a forgotten episode of Holyoaks, smugly welcomes you in to gaze at how the other half live. Fitted units adorn three of the walls with a further extension producing a barrier between the body of the kitchen and the remainder of the room in the form of a large breakfast bar.

There is in fact, sufficient room here for the whole family to eat in comfort and in the open plan style that is becoming ever more popular today. As you would expect in so modern a setting, all the usual miracles of technology are here along with all the storage you could wish for, with the whole being kept bright and cheerful by the light from the big picture window overlooking the rear garden.

In the wall opposite the kitchen are two rather clever bi-fold type doors, one providing access to the mini laundry room where the washing machine shares the space with general storage for all the "stuff" that every home amasses, but few homes seem to have anywhere to put. The other door reveals the downstairs cloakroom with its wall mounted hand basin and lavatory... no, just the hand basin is wall mounted... This room also houses the easily accessible gas combi central heating boiler making it simple to service and maintain.

Outside the back door I was surprised (this is becoming a recurring theme in this home) by the size of the garden, the first third of which is paved over in what appears to be Indian stone, making a large and attractive patio on which to relax and while away those summer evenings, do you remember them?

Beyond the patio and beneath the unusual whalebone shaped wooden arch is the lawn, taking up the remainder of the area. This is just that; a lawn. Left simple for easy maintenance by those not interested in the antics of Alan Titchmarsh or, giving you the option of adding flowering borders should you fancy a splash of colour. The whole garden is surrounded by wooden fencing, meaning that animals and small children are utterly safe, which is always reassuring.

Moving back indoors and up the stairs we turn to the front of the home to address what is so often the Achilles heel in homes of this type; the smallest bedroom. Now, it is indeed, small but having said that, it would make a perfect nursery or home office and as it currently contains a full sized single bed and dressing table with integrated drawers, so perhaps I am being unfair to it!

Adjacent to here and also overlooking the front is the first of the double bedrooms; a well proportioned double room with the added advantage of a walk-in hanging wardrobe formed, I suspect, by utilising the space freed by the removal of the airing cupboard with the fitting of the combi heating system. Whatever its history, it provides a welcome additional space as free standing wardrobes in the bedroom would compromise the room.

Moving towards the rear we come to the final bedroom. This overlooks the garden and is of similar dimensions to the previous room and also benefits from a walk-in hanging cupboard which largely negates the need for free standing furniture, leaving enough space for a small chest of drawers and the bedside cabinets that accompany the double bed.

Finally we come to the family bathroom where once again it is difficult not to be impressed by the standard and style of the fittings. A light grey ceramic floor is complemented by slightly darker tile work covering the walls from floor to ceiling. There is a modern suite comprising a unitary hand basin with storage beneath, lavatory and a traditional bath with a glass side screen protecting the room from any over-enthusiastic use of the twin headed rain shower above. As a finishing touch, there is a heated stainless steel towel rail making chilly mornings as comfortable as they can ever be. It is modern, stylish and practical and what else can you ask for in a bathroom?

All in all this is a home that definitely punches above its weight. Looking utterly standard as you drive past, closer examination reveals it to be anything but; having been thoughtfully altered and finished to an excellent standard it is a home anyone would be proud to own. For a small family the close proximity of some of the best schools the area has to offer, the ease of getting into the town centre for your shopping and the presence of some stunning countryside moments away just add to the appeal. Ones like this don't come along all that often, so go and have a look but I warn you; to see it is to love it.
