Description
The covered porch opens into a small entrance lobby, which in turn links to the impressive sitting room. From here, doors open into a large family room with feature bay window, a cloakroom and a double aspect dining room with side access to the garden. All the principal reception rooms overlook the beautiful garden area, with the sitting and family rooms benefitting from built-in storage cupboards. The kitchen opens into the dining room and is fitted to three sides with a range of cabinets and worksurfaces. Adjoining the kitchen is a complementing utility room with space for appliances and a pantry cupboard.
To the first floor, a landing area links to four good-size bedrooms, with both the main and principal guest bedroom offering built-in wardrobe storage and fine feature fireplaces. A family bathroom with traditional sanitary ware, walk-in shower and freestanding cast iron rolltop bathtub completes the first-floor layout.
NB. The loft area is boarded and offers further storage space.
Outside
To the side of the property, there is an area of hardstanding providing off road parking. From here, brick steps lead up to a pedestrian gate, which in turn opens onto a terrace leading to the covered front entrance.
Careful consideration has been given to the garden to complement the history and character of the house. The landscaped garden enjoys a pleasant southerly aspect and is principally set around a circular area of lawn together with low box hedging. Brick pathways lead to a circular paved terrace and a further enclosed area to the side adjoining a small stone water feature. The garden has a variety of areas of interest and is stocked with a wide variety of flowering shrubs and plants and enclosed by mature mixed hedging. There is a useful timber shed and outside store set within the grounds
Situation
The house occupies a central and principally south facing position in a conservation area in the heart of the unspoilt village of Selborne. The village has a strong community with a public house - ‘The Selborne Arms’, St Mary’s Church, village hall and Selborne C of E Primary School. The village is set amidst fine Hampshire countryside between the villages of Hawkley and Farringdon within the South Downs National Park. Renowned for its association with Gilbert White, the 18th Century naturalist, the village is home to Gilbert White’s House and Museum and is surrounded by scenery of outstanding natural beauty lying at the foot of a beech covered hanger. White’s Cafe forms part of the Museum and is a popular village meeting place. The larger centres of Liss and Alton collectively provide a range of facilities as well as mainline railway stations to London Waterloo. In addition, the A3 can be accessed at Liss providing a route to London and the south coast.
