NOCCIANO - PESCARA PROVINCE
A small village that rises on a panoramic hill from where it is possible to see the Gran Sasso, the Majella, Pescara River valley and the Adriatic Sea. The surrounding land is mainly agricultural with vines, olive groves and wheat growing in the fields.
Nocciano-s origins are ancient, with relics from the Stone Age but the existing, old, fortified village dates to around the 11th Century. It is compact and built around a baronial mansion in a circular shape. Nocciano-s defence tower is still visible whilst the medieval castle houses the Museum of Arts with a permanent collection of works by contemporary Abruzzo artists.
The population of 560 has access to food shops, pharmacy, post office and restaurants. There is a weekly market, each Saturday, in the village centre.
Two of Nocciano-s main events are the Porchetta (young pork) and Sagna e Fagioli (bean and pasta soup) Festival held each August together with the October Grape Festival.
