Description
Stairs rise up from the entrance hall to the first floor, where the simple, contemporary theme continues with three excellent bedrooms. The fabulous dual aspect principal bedroom is worth a special mention, with a large dressing area with fitted cupboards, as well as an impressive ensuite shower room with shower cubicle, basin and WC. A family bathroom with bathtub, basin and WC is well positioned to serve the other two bedrooms.
OUTSIDE
The cleverly designed south facing garden is bounded by lovely stone walls on either side, allowing for a great sense of privacy and shelter. The paved terrace is the ideal spot for some al fresco dining and in turn leads onto a lawned area, framed by well stocked borders filled with a rich variety of plants and shrubs including Jasmin, Rose, Lily and Lavender providing year round colour and interest. A further gravelled area to towards the end of the garden affords the perfect seating area from which to take in the views back to the cottage. A short pathway leads around to the oil tank and a single garage offering a useful storage solution.
The lasting impression is of a beautifully presented, light and bright house with flexible accommodation that would be ideal as a primary or secondary residence in a most enviable location.
SITUATION
Nether Compton is one of several highly popular villages including Trent and Over Compton which lie in pretty undulating countryside, tucked away from main roads but conveniently located close to the ancient historic Abbey town of Sherborne. With an active community, the village has a green, church, hall, pub and cricket club. Dominated by its ancient Abbey and school, Sherborne is arguably the most attractive town in Dorset. Numerous musical and cultural events occur throughout the year and there is a superb range of traditional shops and boutiques. West Dorset is well known for its unspoilt landscape and there are many pretty villages and countryside walks nearby. The Jurassic Coast is a mere twenty miles away at Weymouth. This stretch of coastline, from Portland to Lyme Regis, with its spectacular cliffs, has even been designated a World Heritage Site.
Communications have improved remarkedly in recent years with the upgrading of the A303 to dual carriageway almost the whole way to London. In addition, there are mainline stations at Sherborne on the Waterloo to Exeter line or at Castle Cary on the Paddington to Penzance line. Thus, despite the rural nature of the area, London is a little over two hours by both road and rail.
EDUCATION
The Gryphon secondary school in Sherborne is highly rated. The area is noted for its independent schools with Sherborne Boys’ and Girls’ schools, Leweston, Bryanston, Clayesmore, The Bruton schools, Canford and Milton Abbey all within reasonable driving distance. There are preparatory schools at Sherborne, Blandford and Shaftesbury. There is a well-regarded primary school in the nearby village of Trent.
SPORTING AND RECREATION
The area is well known for its beauty and there is a network of bridleways and footpaths which cross the countryside, making it ideal for walking, cycling, and riding. Water sports at Sutton Bingham Reservoir (near Yeovil) or on the south coast. Racing at Wincanton, Salisbury, Bath or Exeter. Golf at various courses including Yeovil, Sherborne, and Dorchester.
