Saltcoats

Saltcoats is a popular seaside town with a rich history. The town’s name is derived from the salt panning industry that was established there by King James V in the 1500s, whilst the origins of the area stretch back even further to the 1200s when it was used for its coastal coal seams. Today, Saltcoats is better known for its picturesque sandy beaches and quaint harbour. It forms part of the ‘three towns’ alongside its neighbours Ardrossan and Stevenston.
