Description
Well, this property certainly is a spacious surprise with nearly 1700 sq ft of accommodation which is set out in an incredibly family friendly way for an older cottage. As you walk through the front door, the generous hallway opens out in front of you, with huge amounts of storage for shoes and coats, understairs cupboards and a nice wood strip floor. A recently re fitted modern downstairs WC adds further practicality and to the right the characterful sitting room can be found. Wood flooring is complemented by the character of old beams and a fireplace with inset log burner. Double glazed windows and gas fired heating throughout ensure modern standards of warmth, but there is nothing like a wood burner warming the room in the depths of winter!
Through to the rear of the property is a large country style kitchen with plenty of storage in a comprehensive range of units, a range oven for cooking and even a separate area , currently used as a baking zone. Spaces are available for a washing machine and fridge/freezer and quarry style tiles add to the period charm. There could be space for a small breakfast table , but you won't need it as a very generous dining/family room flows from the kitchen making these rooms the hub of the home. The dining room area has enough space for a huge dining table, study desk, and opens up into the large conservatory where sofa seating creates the perfect family relaxing space. In addition, there is a smaller conservatory from the baking area which is currently used as the perfect boot room where muddy kids and dogs can be cleaned down before coming inside. The sink in this area will get plenty of use cleaning the boots off.
Upstairs and the generous space continues with a very spacious landing area which could easily be a study or reading area. The main bedroom is over 16ft and incorporates 2 large built in wardrobes. Tucked at the end of the landing , this is the perfect retreat with views over your front gardens. The 2nd bedroom is also a great double room, with space for freestanding wardrobes and lovely countryside views to the rear. Bedroom 3 and 4 are generous singles, small double rooms with storage in bedroom 3 and views. Finally, the family bathroom is now a modern shower room which has been recently re fitted to a high specification and a super sized shower. The character of this home is still reflected upstairs, with some quirky small steps in and out of the main bedroom, Velux windows to let in more light and angles and beams that provide some unique charm.
Outside and the cottage sits within a generous plot of approx. 0.25 acre. As you drive up the access lane, a large gravel driveway is available for approx 3-4 cars with a good sized single garage alongside. The cute cottage gate and archway takes you into the front garden area with it's paved pathway to the front door. Framed by mature shrubs and trees, with a large lawn area and cottage plants waiting to burst into life in the spring. A patio area is also situated next to the front door so you have options of where to sit throughout the day. A wide area to the side of the cottage gives easy access to the rear garden which offers a variety of different seating areas to enjoy, another excellent level lawn area and is framed by mature trees and shrubs. An fabulous outlook over a paddock and fields beyond provides that wonderful country setting and the garden as a whole are lovely and private.
Located in the quiet heart of Whitley village, this cottage is a hop, skip and a jump from all the amenities. Unusually for a small village, there is lots going on with 2 options for churches, a local village shop where you can volunteer if you have some spare time, a cafe and excellent pub in The Pear Tree Inn. A popular school is close by at Shaw with a golf and cricket club a short walk away. The renowned Lowden garden centre, farm shop and restaurant is around a mile away and you can even walk across the fields to buy your Sunday joint on a sunny day. Even better, a regular bus service to Bath, Corsham, Melksham and Devizes picks up on roughly an hourly basis. Local village halls in both Whitley and Shaw offer a variety of activities from Yoga to Qigong or simply meet up with friends for a coffee of hot chocolate at the warm space or the Sprockets cafe. Opposite the cafe is a volunteer led village shop, which opens 7 days a week for all your essentials and also some lovely local food and craft treats.
Situated between Corsham and Melksham, Whitley has the best of both worlds when choosing a quaint town centre to visit. Melksham offers every supermarket from Aldi to Waitrose, whilst Corsham offers a wide variety of independent shops and eateries. On a Thursday, hop on the bus to Devizes where an excellent farmers market is held. Transport links are easily available with good access to the A350 , M4 and routes into Bath and beyond. The rail network has a station at Melksham where trains can take you for some shopping in Swindon or change for more to London and Bath/Bristol, You can even jump on a train for a day trip to the coast at the weekend.
Countryside surrounds Whitley village and there is a fantastic network of footpaths and cycleways to use. Perfect for walking the dog straight from your front door, or a longer walk over to Neston or Atworth. For the more energetic, the cycle routes pass through the village which is why we also have a cycle shop where you can grab everything from a puncture repair kit through to a new bike. There is even a bike repair and service option along with a village physiotherapy.
