Houghton Conquest is in the northern part of Central Bedfordshire and local amenities include a shop, lower school, village hall and a church. There are two public houses and a restaurant The Knife & Cleaver. Further amenities, including a Waitrose supermarket and several independent shops, are available in the market town of Ampthill about 1 mile away. The independent Harpur Trust Schools are in Bedford, approximately 6 miles away.
