I set up the Company, Edward G Astin & Associates, back in 1992, after first coming to Whitby, freshly qualified in 1980. I have never looked back; such is the nature of the town, its people and its Heritage. It seems a lifetime ago, but everyone who has been involved in helping me to achieve our status in the town should be justifiably proud of their contribution in making Astin's "The Name that says Property in Whitby", or at least that's what other people tell us.

As a General Practice Chartered Surveyors, our Estate Agency arm is keenly supported by a wide spectrum of services in which we are qualified to handle all aspects of Property Sales, Valuation, Management and Property Consultancy matters. Our sister Company, Whitby Holiday Cottages Ltd., also represents a significant player in the tourist industry now, responsible for organising over 3,500 self-catering holiday bookings a year.

We are retained by many major Institutions and Companies who have relied on our local expertise and specialist knowledge in delivering important projects within the Whitby and North Yorkshire Moors area, which have made a major contribution to the renaissance the town has enjoyed in recent times.

I made a conscious decision to keep this business operating as a single office practice in order that we could concentrate all our energies and attention to our own area of operation and as such we have secured our position as market leaders. We continue to forge strong links with important associated Companies in the wider Yorkshire region, with whom we enjoy a mutually beneficial relationship in connection with specialist and high-value properties, and prominent development schemes, all of which have brought considerable investment to the town.

I am most dedicated to ensuring and maintaining our reputation for innovative presentation and customer service levels of the absolute highest standards. We have successful links to state-of-the-art computer systems which provide all our clients with access to the widest possible market.

I have always set the bar very high at Astin's but success is often a difficult yardstick to judge beyond a Balance Sheet and Board count. Whilst our performance has certainly earned us a position as market leaders in every field of our operation, it is the views of others such as yourselves who will ultimately be responsible for deciding how our performance and reputation is measured.
