The house was given Grade II listed status in December 1967 as a property of particular architectural and historical interest. The listing report dates the oldest part to the 15th century when it was a Hall House before being extended in the early 17th century. Renowned local resident John Colet, son of a former Lord Mayor of London Sir Henry Colet, is believed to have been born in the house in 1467. John Colet was educated at St Anthony’s School and Magdalen College, Oxford and went on to become a professor lecturing on the epistles of St Paul, and subsequently prebendary of St Paul’s in London and Chaplain to King Henry
VIII. The local school was named after him as a reminder of his passion for learning.
The house is timber framed with colour washed brick infill, an old tiled roof, and brick chimneys. Period features have been retained throughout including exposed beams and timbers, and inglenook fireplaces.
