Description
Description
Woodend is a beautiful bespoke detached villa meticulously designed and crafted by the current owners. The property blends perfectly with about 6.5 acre woodland that surrounds Woodend while benefiting from idyllic open views towards Ailsa Craig and Pladda, an uninhabited island that is home to an automated 18th century lighthouse.
The property offers generous accommodation over two levels and begins with an entrance porch which leads into an amazing open plan dining/kitchen area. This space is flooded with natural light thanks to the orientation of the property and the fully glazed front.
The kitchen is well appointed with a range of low and high level cabinetry, plenty of work space and a built in gas hob and electric oven, the separate utility room is located off the kitchen along with a WC and offers more storage and space for a washer and dryer. An external door leads to the garden.
From the kitchen, an archway leads into a cosy living and dining room with wood burning stove at the focal point. Large windows allow plenty of natural light to fill the space while offering sea views over the garden. A door/window off the dining room leads out to a superb cantilever deck well positioned to enjoy the tranquil setting above the burn of the smiddy. The family bathroom benefits from a centrally positioned bathtub perfect for relaxing and enjoying the views towards Ailsa Craig and completes the downstairs accommodation.
Woodend has three well-proportioned bedrooms all with views towards the coast and plenty of storage off the upstairs hallway.
Externally the property occupies the most amazing location with about 6.5 acres. The immediate garden is tiered with two feature ponds. Mainly laid to lawn bordered by mature shrubs, flower beds, apple trees and a patio area for alfresco dining offering uninterrupted views from the left of the house, to the right of Woodend is a substantial woodland with stream running through. To the rear is a vegetable patch with greenhouse.
Outbuildings include a versatile studio and a single garage. The private driveway has ample space for parking multiple vehicles.
Location
Woodend enjoys a secluded woodland position and sits hillside above the village of Kildonan, at the southernmost point of the beautiful Isle of Arran, Scotland’s most southerly and one of the most accessible islands. Approximately 60 miles round, Arran has fine sandy beaches, excellent walking and rambling and both sea and trout fishing. Tourist attractions include the Arran Aromatics centre and shop, the Arran Heritage Museum, the Lochranza Distillery and Brodick Castle. There are seven golf courses on the island and Woodend is well situated for access to Whiting Bay Golf Club and Lamlash Golf Club. The island is often referred to as “Scotland in miniature”, as it is divided into highland and lowland areas by the Highland Boundary Fault. It is a popular destination for geologists, due to the substantial volcanic activity around 16 million years ago in the Tertiary period. There are many stone circles and standing stones dating from Neolithic times, including those on Machrie Moor and the Giants’ Graves above Whiting Bay. The village of Kildonan boasts an idyllic white sand beach and spectacular views over the Ayrshire coastline to the island of Pladda and Ailsa Craig. The village hall is the main community hub and the Kildonan Hotel, which has a restaurant and bar. Kildonan Castle is within a short walk of the property and the area is a haven for wildlife, including otters and seals. A wider range of services including newsagent, post office, pharmacy, café/bar and bistro, hardware store and a farm shop are available in nearby Whiting Bay where there is also a craft store and art gallery along with an 18 hole golf course. There is a village primary school and a new high school at Lamlash. The surrounding area provides some of Arran’s most scenic walks, not only along the shoreline but also through the forest to the Glenashdale Falls.
