Westward Ho! Is a picturesque village facing out towards the Atlantic Ocean on the North Devon coast close to Bideford. Born out of a development triggered by the book Westward Ho! written by Charles Kingsley in the mid 1800's, it grew into a popular holiday destination and remains so today.

Its location at the Taw/Torridge estuary, between Hartland Point to the south and the Saunton Sands to the north, gives it a classic position and its two miles of long and wide sandy beach, known as Golden Bay, can rival anywhere in the country. The village has a variety of shops including a butchers, newsagent/general store, bakers, hairdressers, post office, surf shops, restaurants, pubs and a range of amusement facilities. Families can enjoy themselves on the soft sand, or simply relax in a very safe environment. Many couples choose to stroll along the beach on a romantic walk, with the wind surfers, kite surfers, wave surfers, dog walkers, horse riders, wind buggy riders and kite flyers there is always so much to watch on the beach. Even with all this going on the beach will always feel deserted as at low tide the beach is 2 miles long by 800 metres wide! It is also a favourite for bird watchers too, as there is a whole host of birds frequenting the area.
