Description
Description
Situated in an idyllic village within the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, yet just four miles to Marlow and five miles from High Wycombe and four miles from Junction 4 of the M40 motorway, Horseshoe Barn offers a best-of-both-worlds feel. The attractive barn conversion was converted from agricultural buildings into a stylish and spacious home in 2012 and has been sympathetically updated, creating a stunning home that’s full of character. Marrying old and new, the interiors feature exposed timber beams and brick detailing, complemented by a striking metal and glass spiral staircase, wood-framed windows and doors and plenty of modern touches. The double-height sitting room is a highlight, with its mezzanine overlooking the living area below providing a separate space for a snug or a home office.
The accommodation is light and spacious and, aside from the mezzanine, is arranged over a single storey. The wonderful open plan sitting room leads out to the garden via a set of French doors and internally, onto the open plan kitchen/breakfast/dining room which features attractive cabinetry and integrated appliances such as AEG ovens and a wine cooler. There are two lobby areas to either side of the house: off the kitchen there are two double bedrooms – both en suite, while off the sitting room there is a further en suite bedroom and a utility room. Separate to the main house is a further double bedroom, shower room and sitting room in a self-contained annex.
Outside
Horseshoe Barn is situated at the centre of the village, along a private track just back from the Common. The house is accessed via electric gates opening to a large, gravelled driveway and a storage shed. A side gate leads into an internal courtyard separating the main house from the potential annexe building: this provides a fabulous space for outdoor dining in the warmer months and has ample space for pots. The garden is situated to the northeast of the house and is wonderfully secluded, with established trees all around the boundary and a good-size central lawn. There are two terraces for garden furniture, a timber wood store and a garden shed
Location
Wheeler End is a pretty village nestled atop the Chiltern Hills providing the prefect blend of town and country, being on the doorstep of some of the area’s most outstanding natural scenery. The village has a popular pub while more extensive amenities can be found in the neighbouring villages: Lane End offers a range of local amenities including a village store, pharmacy, veterinary surgery, restaurants and pubs and a café, plus the popular Lacey’s Farm Shop.
Marlow and Henley on Thames are within easy reach as is High Wycombe for rail connections to London Marylebone. Marlow town offers a superb range of retailers, with an eclectic mix of local independent and national names. The town itself is situated on the banks of the river Thames and offers an array of attractions.
Oxford, Reading and the West/Central London can be easily reached via the M40 linking to the national motorway network. Outdoor pursuits are numerous, such as golf, football, cricket and rugby clubs and a number of varied walks across surrounding Chiltern countryside including the Thames Path and Hambleden Valley. The area is well served for schools, with Buckinghamshire state and grammar schools being especially sought-after.
