Description

Dating back to 1860s, Thornbank Cottage is an elegant Victorian detached cottage that enjoys some of the most amazing views over the waters of the Firth of Clyde. With its shore side location, yet set well back from the road, the property is sheltered and affords a great deal of privacy.

Access to the gardens is via a timber gate from the pavement that opens into a private front garden that is bounded on one side by a dry stone wall and mature trees and on the other by well trimmed hedging. A pathway and a few steps lead up to the front door with a gravelled area and bedded borders adjacent to the entrance. At the rear of the cottage there is access out to an enclosed gravelled area with feature rock formations. Two garden sheds to one side. Stone steps lead up to a fantastic open garden space that is lawned, features mature trees and shrubs and affords spectacular views over the water as far as the Isle of Arran on a clear day. There is a further timber shed and timber built wood store to one side. Please note before arranging a viewing that there is no driveway or off street parking with the property with no capacity to make one.

The interior of the cottage is compact, comfortable and feels very cosy and the owners have considerably modernised and upgraded throughout. A perfect property for those looking for all-on-the-level living, Thornbank Cottage would also be perfect for use as a holiday cottage/AirBnB.

The cottage has been extended to the front and on entering, the lounge is a spacious room with a large picture window framing the spectacular views. There is a multi-fuel stove in the centre of the room, a shelved display alcove and attractive timber flooring. A door from the lounge leads through to a compact, yet beautifully fitted kitchen. Fitted with mainly counter level units, good work surface areas and equipped with a built-in oven, plumbing for a washing machine and room for a fridge/freezer.

Off the lounge, there is an internal hall that has a door leading out to the rear of the cottage. The bedrooms and shower room are also accessed from the hall. The master bedroom is a good sized double room and has a window to the front, taking in the view, along with a built-in wardrobe. The second bedroom is a smaller, yet well proportioned single bedroom and the modern refitted shower room to the rear of the house features a shower enclosure, wash hand basin and wc.

The property comes fully double glazed and heating is by means of a combination of Dimplex electric heaters and electric storage heaters.

Enjoying one of the most idyllic locations on the west of Scotland, the village of Kilcreggan and its neighbour Cove, offer a great community feel, with a local primary school, and a number of clubs and groups catering for a wide selection of interests. The villages benefit from many other local amenities that include a range of shops, post office, health centre, hotels, pub and a garage. There are good transport links from the villages, with a regular bus service to Helensburgh which is the nearest large town. A pedestrian ferry operates from Kilcreggan across the Firth of Clyde over to Gourock where there is a connecting rail link to Glasgow. Helensburgh is approximately twenty-five minutes drive away and it provides a wider selection of amenities including shops, supermarkets, banks, post office, bars and restaurants along with train stations providing services to Glasgow, Edinburgh and even London. Glasgow can be reached by road in approximately fifty minutes and the international airport is easily accessible via the M8 and the Erskine Bridge. EPC Band - E.
