THE AREA
Esentepe:
The Esentepe Coast is North Cyprus's favourite spots to buy a dream home or invest in a property for the holidays. Here you will find property prices with exceptional value, as well as a lower cost of living. Located in the heart of North Cyprus/Kyrenia, the Esentepe Coast offers plenty to see and do, great food and the hospitality of the locals who welcome the growing expat community with open arms. Here you will also find modern facilities to meet your everyday needs without the hassle and traffic typical of bigger cities. Esentepe, meaning Windy Hill, is a village location on the north coast to the east of Kyrenia probably dating back to the Byzantine era when the village was first established.
If you're looking to leave the hustle and bustle of Kyrenia behind and you want to venture out further into the 'real North Cyprus,' then head east along the coastal road and you'll come to pretty Esentepe - your gateway to the Karpaz Region, the coast and the foothills of the Kyrenia range. At its centre is a charming old village, which is so laid back it makes you want to sit down and while away the day over a coffee or perhaps a glass of local wine! The central village population is mainly made up of Turkish Cypriot people and lately from Norway, Sweden, England and many other European People.
Esentepe has grown over the past few years to become a village of some note because many visitors to the area have fallen in love with the area and sought to establish their own homes in and around the village. Most of the new developments close to the village have taken root along the coast road. Rest assured, none of this detracts from the idyllic coastal retreat of Esentepe village that nestles at the foot of the Kyrenia mountain range; rather the new development that has come to Esentepe has raised its profile and desirability instead of taking away its rural charm.
Esentepe and the beauty of the surrounding areas of Bahceli, Alagadi, Karaa ac and Alevkaya make this area a must see, particularly due to the turtle nesting sites on the fantastic beaches of the area, the forest walks, picnic sites and the herbarium featuring samples and illustrations of native botanical species. It's also an area historically rich with ruins of various monasteries, as well as the domed church of Antiphonitis, which contains one of the last examples of 12th and 15th century frescoes in North Cyprus.
Karaagaç
Karaagaç is a charming village nestled along the Mediterranean coast in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. It offers a peaceful, rural atmosphere that's perfect for those seeking tranquility, yet it's conveniently close to bustling towns like Kyrenia and Nicosia. This balance makes it an ideal spot for enjoying the best of both worlds.
Known for its stunning landscapes, unspoiled beaches, and historical sites, Karaagaç is a serene haven where nature and culture intertwine. Unlike more crowded tourist destinations on the island, it provides a quieter, more authentic experience, making it an appealing choice for anyone looking to live or invest in a picturesque and accessible retreat.
Living in Karaagaç, North Cyprus, offers the perfect blend of relaxation and modern convenience in a stunning Mediterranean setting. This charming village is ideal for individuals or families looking to leave behind the hustle of city life without compromising on comfort or amenities. Its growing, welcoming community draws people from around the globe, all eager to enjoy its natural beauty and laid-back lifestyle.
Karaagaç is peaceful but far from isolated. With easy access to the beautiful coastline, outdoor activities, and nearby cultural attractions, there's always something to explore. And with its tight-knit community of locals and expats, life here feels warm and connected, offering a true sense of belonging in an idyllic setting.
Korineum Golf Course:
The prestigious Korineum Golf & Beach Resort is in fact very much a part of the small island's history as it is proudly home to the first 18 hole golf course in the Northern part of Cyprus. The beautifully manicured lawns and impeccably kept golf course are not the only marvels of the Resort. With a private beach and a deluxe Boutique Hotel, the experience offered is one of celebrated relaxation. The dramatic beauty of the Resort is sure to take your breath away with its stately grandeur set between the Mediterranean coast and the Besparmak Mountain range in Esentepe. The landscape carved from a natural forest of Umbrella Pines, Carob and Olive trees, will ease you in to the steady beat of island life.
Alagadi Turtle Beach:
Alagadi Turtle Beach is a famous turtle beach, but also a popular beach for both locals and tourists. The beach consists of two bays, one has a restaurant and is always well-attended, while the other bay is a little more secluded and suits those who want a quieter day at the beach. Neither have beach chairs or umbrellas, but you can bring your own beach accessories here.
In the summertime you can see when the sea turtles' egg hatch on Alagadi Turtle Beach. The volunteer organisation SPOT organises turtle nest excavations and these can be attended if you get a reservation with SPOT. It's an amazing feeling to be a part of the moment when sandy little hatchlings see the day light for the first time. Or in the evening when you can be part of the group who drops them into the sea!
The places where the turtle's nests are located on the beach are marked out with white nets so you can't miss them. You cannot put your sun lounger or parasol close to them, as you may risk damaging the nest. When you are at Alagadi Turtle Beach you should not miss the natural "rock pools" created by the sea where rocks meet sea and where the stones are sanded by the waves. At these "rock pools" the water is heated by the warm Mediterranean sun. Here you can sit still with your feet in the warm waters and look out over the scenic coast.
