Owner's comment:

An inheritance from my late parents and Auntie enabled me to fulfil my dream of buying a cottage in Thorpeness.  2 Beach Cottages captured my heart from the first moment I saw it and I have been so privileged to have had many happy times here and created precious memories here. The cottage has a unique warmth and peacefulness and is in a truly special setting.  The garden is always bathed in sunshine and from here you can hear the sea and view the beautiful sunsets over the Meare.

Since I took ownership, the cottage has undergone a complete renovation. It’s hard to believe that on the day the pandemic lock-down was announced in 2020, the cottage had no roof, and the walls were stripped back to cobble stones!  I maintained as many original features and character of the cottage as possible during the renovation whilst future proofing it for many more years to come.

2 Beach Cottages is one of the original fishermen’s cottages in Thorpeness and the Smokehouse – which contains stones unique to this stretch of coastline in its walls - was once used by the village to smoke the fish caught here. The cottage can be seen in many early photographs of the village - some of which predate the start of the construction of the Meare and Thorpeness as we know it today.  In a photograph on the living room wall, the cottage can be seen behind the ‘Thorpeness Vitesse’ which was used to transfer holiday makers from Leiston train station to the village in the early 1900’s.  The cottage is also referred to in a number of historical records such as the memoires of a local fisherman housed in the Heritage Hut in the village. Records of the owners date back to 1800, (the cottage is probably older) showing that the cottage was in the same family from then right up until the 1990’s when it was sold to the family that I purchased it from. Members of this family still live locally and the small pink beam that remains in the living room was kept intentionally as a respectful nod to the elderly lady who lived here before me.

I am confident that this very special cottage will capture your heart too and bring you as much peace and joy as it has me.
